One thing I noticed is that in terms of the fifa ranking Aruba lucked out big time. FIFA views them as 2-0 in CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying and their loss to French Guiana does not count since FG is not a FIFA member. Looking ahead, the winner of the Barbados - Surname games will get a nice bounce even if they lose their other 2 games as they will be 1-0 in Gold Cup qualifying as Martinique and Bonaire are also non FIFA members. Surname in particular could find themselves in the top 10 if they win as they are already 14. Guatemala will need a good showing in Copa Centroamericano to get back in the top 12 of CONCACAF
New rankings out, and CRC are the highest they've ever been at #15 in the world, now the top team in CONCACAF with Mexico and the U.S. just behind them. After that there's a huge gap down to Honduras, then Panama who have the largest decline of any team in the rankings for this month, dropping 30 (!) spots. It should be noted that Canada continues to plummet, down to 122nd in the world, another new low for them after last month's record low of 118th: For reference, here is Canada's ranking history since 2009, a precipitous decline:
The 8-1 loss in Honduras sent their program into a spiral. They haven't won a game since then, and they've only scored 3 goals in 15 matches.
The game that I'm sure they've erased from memory. They literally have no goal scorers. Friend and Occean are just...
And it's all Michael Bradley's fault. If we had closed out the game against Portugal, we'd have 1084 points in the FIFA rankings, putting us in 14th, above both Costa Rica and Mexico.
In May and June, Aruba beat Turks and Caicos Islands and British Virgin Islands and lost to non-FIFA member French Guiana in Caribbean Cup qualifying. The fact that the most recent year is weighted more helps Aruba. If you weighted the most recent four years for Aruba equally while leaving everybody else the same, Aruba would be 17th in CONCACAF instead of tied for 10th. Although Aruba has a low population, it has more people than WCQ Semifinalist Antigua and Barbuda.
New rankings out, with some significant jumps in the Caribbean: - Canada moved up 2 spots in the world ranking, but fell 6 spots in the zonal ranking to 15th! - CRC, Mexico and the U.S. are clear top dogs - Guatemala jump 77 spots after a nice Copa Centroamericana. Crazy to see they are essentially tied with Honduras.
Time to re-compute a table that I had once previously generated. I took the December rankings for each year (of course, the September rankings for 2014), using the Concacaf ranking (1-35) for each, then averaged them over the last four (sorted on this column), eight, and twelve years. This shows the increase of the Caribbean teams, and the decline of Canada. 21 months ago at the end of 2012, Canada was 64th and Costa Rica was 66th. Now Costa Rica is 105 spots ahead of Canada.
MB's fault... more like JK's fault. JK made a silly sub, Gonzo as another CDM??? In stoppage time??? ...and he took out Zusi who was playing LM. The left side of the field was wide open. The wide open pass with acres of space to the best attacker in the game does not happen if Zusi is still playing LM.
All three ranking system place the US third. (I guess technically tied for second in the SPI) FIFA ELO 10 Mexico 1879 15 Costa Rica 1830 16 United States 1825 34 Panama 1693 76 Honduras 1526 76 Guatemala 1526 80 El Salvador 1505 80 T&T 1505 85 Jamaica 1491 88 Canada 1480 108 Haita 1400 134 A & B 1286 146 Dominican Rep 1237 159 St Kitts 1196 165 St Vincent & G 1161 ESPN Power Index 16 Mexico 79.2 20 Costa Rica 78.1 21 USA 78.1
According to my pseudo-math skills, after these pair of draws (Ecu & Hon), the US will fall at least 2-3 spots from their current rank when the updated fifa ranking comes out.
Likely 5-6 minimum, with Euro teams coming up the rankings possibly making that drop even bigger. EDIT: According to the FIFA calculator, we'll be passed by: England, Croatia, Algeria, Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic, and the Ivory Coast will pass us if they win or draw against DR Congo tomorrow.

Yes. You are correct. According to Edgar's calculations/rankings, the US will drop by 6 positions and settle at #23. http://www.football-rankings.info/2014/10/fifa-ranking-october-2014-final-preview.html
