So I was thinking about how this competition could be used as qualifying for other continental championships and came up with the following:

Copa América (assuming 6 berths for Concacaf):

Easy. All 4 League A group winners qualify, with the 4 League A group runners-up paired up for home/away playoffs for the last two berths.

    Gold Cup:

I would have 4 League A group winners, the 4 League A group runners-up and the 4 League B group winners qualify directly to the Gold Cup.

The four relegated teams from Group A would then be drawn against the 4 League B group runners-up for home/away playoffs, with the last four berths on the line.

And yes, I'd leave League C out in the cold...teams there want to reach the big stage, they can start earning it by winning promotion.

What about the WCQ 2022 ? It is not yet known what format will be used. Assuming that the draw is the next summer of 2019, it would be important to know if the pots would be chosen according to FIFA ranking, their own Concacaf ranking or based in the positions in the League of Nations.

As far as I know, FIFA rankings must be used for seeding in the draw for a FIFA tournament.

And if you think about it, FIFA rankings are based on matches that include those played in CONCACAF and the League of Nations.

OK, trying to wrap my head around this.

I think I am caught up. I think. So here is where things stand.

    1. Uefa. 4/5 competitions per cycle.
    ---a. LoN: Sept-Nov 2018 (4-6 games)
    -------i. LoN Finals: 4 teams: June 2019
    ---b. Euro QF: 20 slots
    -------i. LoN Euro Qual: 4 spots (3/20)
    ---d. Euro's (Summer '20)
    ---e. World Cup Qualifying ('20/'21).

Once LoN is done, the 16 group winners take a spot for the Euro Qual backdoor route. Each league gets their own path for 1 team to get in (ABCD). If any of the group winners are already qualified, spot goes to highest ranked team in that tier.

Correct. That means at least one of the European minnows from League D will be at Euro 2020. I suspect CONCACAF will do something similar for future Gold Cups, but we'll have to wait for 2021 to know for sure.

    2. CONMEBOL. 2 Competitions per cycle.

    A. Copa America. 2019 & then 2024.
    ----12 teams.

    B. World Cup Qualifying. Should stay the same.

No word on any Nations League stuff or if a once oer cycle CONMEBOL/CONCACAF 16 teamer happens.

Really, is that all that is set so far. We do not know CONCACAF beyond 2019 Gold Cup. Will there be 2 per cycle? Do not know the WCQ format, which will have to change anyway heading after 2022.

Do we know if AFC/CAF will continue to play 2 Confederation championships per cycle? With the last iteration of the Confed Cup this time being replaced by the 6 team PO for the last 2 WC spots as the test event for the hosts, it seems like a International Nation's League is in the air.

    So much uncertainty.

As for CONCACAF NL, I could easily see letting the League B & C champions have the last two spots.

AFC is interesting to me. The problem they had in the old fifa rankings was their only confederation championship occurred three years before the World Cup draw. This hurt the top Asian teams. With the new ranking system, Asia won't be punished as badly, but they could still use a Nation's League type competition.

    Thanks.

CAF is more cloudy to me. Will they switch to once every 4 years? Ditto CONCACAF.

FWIW, still confused if UEFA/CONCACAF NL will be every two years or every four? If there is a Euro qual tie in, I would assume every four. Though that could skip an edition.

I believe the Euro NL is planned for every two years. The plan for this cycle is

    2018-19 - Nations League
    2019-20 - Euro Qual
    2020-21 - Nations League
    2021-22 - World Cup Qual

Basically each September to March is a "season" and this works out since the 2022 World Cup is in November. No one knows how things will work for the 2026 cycle.

I believe CONCACAF is planned for every two years as well.

Ah, I forgot about the winter world cup this time. Thought there was no way to squeeze it in. Makes more sense.

Not sure that schedule works for CONCACAF if there are two Gold Cups per cycle.

And of corse when the 48 team WC hits, most of the qualifying will need adjusted.

For Gold Cup after 2019, I bet they just take all of League A (makes staying up important), three group winners from League B (makes winning the group important for League B) and one spot available to the League C champion.

    Is my math correct:
    League A = all 12
    League B = all 3 Group Winners
    League C = League Champion

So just an idea - with several obstacles to it happening, chiefly 1) it being pointless if the Global Nations League comes into being, and 2) needing extraordinary approval from FIFA otherwise.

But if we were to have an Americas Nations League (CONMEBOL + Concacaf), a solution to the travel issue could be to have the same team host both matches in a a FIFA window. An example:

    League A, Group 1:

    Uruguay
    Mexico
    Venezuela

    Fixtures:

    September

    Venezuela vs. Mexico
    Venezuela vs. Uruguay

    October

    Mexico vs. Uruguay
    Mexico vs. Venezuela

    November

    Uruguay vs. Venezuela
    Uruguay vs. Mexico

In this way, you wouldn't have any team planning for matches in North and South America in the same week, and draws could be held normally without geographic considerations.

I love it all about this league already! Besides, of course, pathetic CONCACAF video editors, each highlights lasts for 1 minute, no matter if game ended in 0-0 draw or 5-0 thrashing. And I still mind that background music like I did in CCL highlights.

Shame for Montserrat last night, they were about to make history.

Flashscore says that Turks and Caicos played less than 20 matches since 2000. Is that true? If it is, it means that they will play more than that in next 12-13 months. That's the reason I like this, regular exposure for each CONCACAF member.

Turks and Caicos will probably play 8 Nations League games between now and November of 2019. They will get 4 qualifying round games and then 4 group stage games since League C, their likely destination, will have three team groups.

They could get more in early 2020 if they win their group but that's it. The most any team could play in this tournament, including the qualifying round, is 12 games but only a couple of League B teams will play that many.

And then in the next Nations League teams like Turks and Caicos might only get 4 games since there won't be a qualifying round after this initial one.

It is more games for teams like them so that's good.
