I'm very interested to see what location(s) are chosen. Will the USA basically get home games agains in a $$$ grab? Are they choosing 1 supposedly 'neutral' site to host both the semi's and final, or will Mexico and Honduras get home games in the Semi's?
I saw your message too late. Yes, the entire Surinamese community was constantly nervous. Glad we made it, thanks to Dominica.
It could be more than one location but in one country. Assuming it's the US it would probably be regionally clustered. My guess is that 3rd-place/final will be a doubleheader, as 3rd place games are tough to sell.
Didn’t watch the full video, but, God, how similar are Dutch and English?! I went from thinking the lady at the beginning was speaking a foreign language, to thinking she was speaking English in a really thick accent, to then realizing she was in fact speaking Dutch. LMAO.
It was absolutely amazing. Although Suriname qualified twice (under the name Concacaf champions league) in the past. This is the first time under the name GoldCup. We have always said it, we have the potential to grow in the Concacaf confederation. The official language in Suriname is Dutch. The second language is Sranang Tongo (Taki Taki or in English "Talking Talking"). a language that originated in the time of slavery. Taki taki is a language mixed with creole / african, english, dutch and some spanish / portuguese.
Congratulations Surinamese-man.Happy to see your team in the Gold Cup...another powerhouse has risen.
Thanks bro.Yes,but there are more Caribbean teams that have grown strongly in recent years.Look for example at Bermuda and Martinique and especially Curacao that have managed to build a very strong team. These types of teams can no longer be underestimated and nobody wants to be classified anymore as "weak" and in my opinion more will follow in the coming years.
I honestly wish the CONCACAF WC hadn't been changed in such a way that screws teams like those. I would've loved seeing a Curaçao or a Jamaica instead of an Honduras, a weakened and old Panama or Trinidad and Tobago.
The first ten tournaments were the CONCACAF Championship also known as the CONCACAF Campeonato de Naciones. "League" has never been in the title. Champions leagues are always for clubs. Jamaica will be in the Hexagonal.
Since CONCACAF switched to the new WCQ format, does anyone know if games between national teams that play non-FIFA members count for ranking purposes? For example, were the games between Honduras-Martinique rated in the FIFA rankings? And any word when the 2021 Gold Cup qualifiers for the final four spots will be drawn?
Games against non-FIFA members like Martinique do not get rated in FIFA rankings... Seeing as they aren't a part of FIFA...
Update: now we have something concrete. Concacaf has announced that the draw will take place on December 11th.
Thanks for confirming. I assumed that was the case, which seems to highlight why going straight to a Hex for the WCQ based on FIFA rankings is a terrible idea. I'm just looking at this objectively. So Honduras only has two games rated in the CNL (2 wins against T&T) and their reward is a SF against the US and a probable 3rd place game against Costa Rica. Odds are likely they lose both games. Jamaica and El Salvador, on the other hand, are rewarded for ending up in League B, with Jamaica racking up 6 wins and El Salvador 5. Both teams right now would qualify for the Hex based on FIFA rankings despite getting eliminated at the SF stage in the last cycle, while Panama, who actually qualified for the World Cup, would miss out. If CONCACAF wanted more WCQ games for national teams, they could've simply reverted to the 2014 WCQ cycle, rather than overhauling the system in an uneven and seemingly biased way. The top 9 teams could've went straight to the SF stage, with all other teams vying for the final three slots. But this is typical CONCACAF, one step forward with the Nations League rollout, and two steps back with a ridiculous WCQ plan.
Now confirmed: Texas to Host First-Ever Concacaf Nations League Finals in June 2020#CNL #TheDreamIsNow🗞>> https://t.co/vKil7x8FZN— Concacaf Nations League (@CNationsLeague) March 9, 2020 And yes, there will be a Third-Place Match for no apparent reason. It may still be interesting though, if only as the last competitive game for both teams involved before the Hex ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League Final Round Times are ET. Thursday, June 4 (2) Honduras v. (3) USA 7:30 pm @ BBVA Stadium, Houston, TX (1) Mexico v. (4) Costa Rica 10:00 pm @ NRG Stadium, Houston, TX Sunday, June 7 3rd Place: Semifinal losers meet 5:30 pm @AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX Champion: Semifinal winners meet 8:00 pm @AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Listen, you made some good points, but as long as Jamaica makes the hex that's all that matters to me
So FIFA has recommended vacating the June 2020 window, meaning that the CNL Finals will likely have to be postponed. The good news is that Concacaf has a couple easy solutions at its disposal: 1) Move the schedule back a window for the top tier - CNL Finals in September 2020, and the Hex in October 2020, November 2020, March 2021, June 2021 and September 2021. 2) Move everything back a window: September 2020 - CNL Finals October 2020 - Hex matchdays 1-2, Tier II group stage matchdays 1-2 November 2020 - Hex matchdays 3-4, Tier II group stage matchdays 3-4 March 2021 - Hex matchdays 5-6, Tier II group stage matchdays 5-6 June 2021 - Tier II quarterfinals September 2021 - Hex matchdays 7--8, Tier II semifinals October 2021 - Hex matchdays 9-10, Tier II Final November 2021 - Hex 4th/Tier II winner playoff All done, with plenty of time in 2022 for the intercontinental playoffs (I suspect FIFA will push those back to June) and the group stage of the next CNL ahead of the WC finals.
I don't think Canada will be able to play friendlies to enter the top six to play in the Hexagonal. As long as the Nations League Finals can't affect WCQ seeding, the WCQ draw could be done before the Nations League Finals. It would be short notice to make every team schedule their WCQs with under four weeks' notice if they used the September Rankings for a draw that affected games in October.
