I said that earlier in the Hex. He had a MD1 game. Seems like the entire Honduran FIFA list is in the mix to an extent--hard to discern who stands out, which is how Costa Rica has been for a few years, too (though Montero has risen to the top).
The announcer said a Panamanian player attacked Gonzalez, Gonzalez retaliated, and both players should have gotten reds. An announcer said Trinidad and Tobago deserved at least two yellow cards that weren't given, but giving those cards wouldn't have given anybody two.
You can certainly make the case that the Panamanian player shoved or even tried to strike the Costa Rican first. But then I'd also say that the Costa Rican deliberately ran into the Panamanian and initiated contact to prompt that move. Really, everything before the deliberate strike to the face can probably be chalked up as "this is a corner kick in a heated CONCACAF match." If it had occurred before it did, which was at the exact moment that the corner was being taken, it's the sort of thing Marrufo probably would have held up play for and tried to defuse. As things stood, I just don't see enough to give a penalty and sanction the Panamanian. Red for VC and foul coming out seems like the just decision. Now, not to beat a dead horse, but if VAR was in play and it showed conclusively that the Panamanian player attempted to strike first, are we looking at two red cards and a penalty here? I have no idea.
akin, i thought the same thing. i was like holy sh--- when i saw it. he gave a caution. the honduras player walked away probably thinking he had a red. can anyone sell me on why this tackle would only be a yellow
Well if Fischer gave the red card the Honduras fans would be upset with him, and the whole idea of refereeing is to make everyone happy.
It can't have been worth a red if the player was upset by a yellow! More seriously, I'm guessing our R did not see the studs to ankle contact, and the rest of the tackle was merely reckless. I would imagine (and hope!) this would be upgraded if VAR had been in play.
Not me! I am shocked! This should have been the easiest red card ever. Visiting player at Azteca with a flying two-footed lunge? You gotta be kidding me! PH
Because Drew Fisher is not a great referee. Sorry, don't like to throw comrades under the bus, but he consistently disappoints.
You would know better than me about if the timing of where the ball was matters. Can a penalty kick be given for VC while the ball is not in play as players are waiting for a corner kick?
I'm not a referee, but the law is that when the ball is out of play, the restart never changes. So if the restart is a corner kick, nothing that happens before the restart can change that the restart will be a corner kick.
I'm willing to accept I have red, white, and blue glasses on for this one but I don't see how Salcedo wasn't carded in the first 4 minutes for the back-to-back elbows. I know, I know, "Forget it JasonMa, it's Azteca"
Yeah, the second one is a particularly bad miss. That's textbook red in the classroom. If Aguilar had called a careless foul, I'd chalk it up to an unwillingness to show a card four minutes into a Mexico-US hex match, but the lack of a whistle altogether is surprising. Looked like he had a good angle, so I have to wonder what he saw here.
I'd like to know what VAR would have done with that elbow to Wood's face. Good argument for SFP, and I thought the contact was in the penalty area. Aguilar might have claimed he saw it all the way, and just denied the review.
How in the he'll do you have two minutes added time in the first half? The cart came out twice. Those two alone took up 5 min. Add to that 2 goals and a handful of minor injuries. When he called for two, the 4th should have said "do you want to rethink that"? I predicted 6. Totally shocked at 2.
