This is not a completely unheard of tactic, I believe that every MLB team has to play some spring training games with neither team broadcasting to keep a "mystique" around spring training to keep people traveling to spring training.

Even then, they have stats/Gameday (gametracker) for those games.

I'm sure I've seen occasional MLB spring training on TV.

 

The majority of games are broadcast, but there always seems to be one or two per team (more for teams who don't put much effort into Spring broadcasts) that are not carried by either team on TV or radio (or internet audio).
