Dude, was clearly questionable. You dont need to touch a player to foul them. You dont need to touch the ball to interfere with play. I can only assume you're trolling because this shit is simple.
Not questionable. And I’m not trolling. I’m sure VAR was used to ensure it wasn’t flicked, and it wasn’t. I’m not saying I agree with the way the rule is written, an offensive player can certainly change defensive positioning and keeper reaction, which, as a former defender, drives me crazy, but the rule is written to be called on the touch, which we have all seen when the call is made deep after a clearly offside player runs a ball down and the flag isn’t raised immediately. This is nowhere near questionable.
Officials laws of the game. Stunner, you can be called offside without touching the ball. So, that ends that.
Geeg says the goal should have been called back. It was not. Happy Chelsey. Happy Crew fans. I bet James is happy, too. Right, hang?
No disagreement that you can be called off side without touching the ball. The disagreement is whether Mullins did something that meets the requirements in the laws. He didn't. Not offside.
Mullins was in an offside position and made a play on the ball which the goalkeeper had to take into account in how he defended his goal. The fact that Mullins would ultimately come up short on his attempt does not change the fact that he made a play on the ball nor that the goalkeeper had to take the move into consideration for his own actions.
I look forward to the Hipster tweet: “Look at the kickoff attendance of last night’s Crew game! Pathetic! MLS2ATX!”
Technically correct, but it isn't called that way. You are supposed to take a throw in where the ball goes out of play. A GK is supposed to only handle the ball for six seconds. In championship matches, the AR is supposed to put the flag up when the ball goes out.
So, Mullins is potentially offside & Zardes is on as the ball is played. So does Mullins interfere with play? Topmost defender is not even looking at Mullins. He is focused on Opoku (who was fantastic last night, BTW), already speeding back to try to prevent Opoku from blowing by him (again). He plays Zardes on. He is focused on Opoku pre-cross & not involved after the cross. Mullins does not impact him. Bottom most defender is trailing an on-side Zardes the whole time. Mullins is not a factor here. Middle defender is looking at Afful as the cross is made. He is furthest behind the play and not a factor once the cross is made. No Mullins interference there. GK is the most questionable. But Zardes takes a touch & runs right at him. Mullins' leap is outside the box. He is not a threat to head it in from there. And any gravity he exerts on the GK is nullified as Zardes takes a touch, runs onto it, and then shoots. Mullins not a factor in any of that. Under the old 'makes an attempt to play the ball' rule of thumb, it is disallowed. Under an 'interfering with play' standard, I think it is a good goal and a good call. I mean, which defender does Mullins really interfere with? Answer, none.
Not sure if this is a serious question, or if puttputt is just playing. If serious, or for newbies or lurkers not familiar with the term, I’ll take a swing. Tifo is/are displays by fan groups, such as large banners displayed, individuals holding different colored card stock to create a display, etc. Might also include holding scarves aloft in unison; not certain where the “line” is of what is and what isn’t. I believe Tifo Sweat is the group of Crew fans that get together in a warehouse and design and paint banners. @YeahMorgan is/has been pretty involved with Tifo Sweat.
Aside from the offside no-call/call, I just want to say again how impressed I was with Opoku specifically last night. Yes, it was against tired legs on a tired team. But he has speed AND some nifty close control & trickery. I think he is in the 18 most nights.. Did Williams have a knock? Not in 18 at all. Sauro had two questionable moments (one stepping up and not fetting the ball, another later on where he turned it over in an advanced position), but was otherwise very good. He has excellent composure & touch on the ball, especially vs the press. Some nifty stuff with Grella & Valenzuela. He is our best possession defender, FWIW. Would love it if he reclaimed a starting spot. Preferred XI: Steffen; Affull, Mensah, Williams, Valenzuela; Trapp, Artur; Santos, Higuain, Meram; Zardes. Preferred Bench: Kempin; Jimenez, Abubakar/Williams; Clark, Grella, Opoku; Mullins. Fine in smaller doses/fill in: Crognale, Maloney; Sosa, Hansen, Martinez, Argudo. Gonna be interesting if we have to protect XI. And what the rules are (are HGs safe?). No brainer: Zardes No brainer sans a transfer: Steffen, Trapp Almost a certainty: Afful, Valenzuela, Artur That is 6, five if Trapp is safe. High priced ?s = 4. Pipa, Mensah, Santos, Meram. Young guns: Opoku, Abubakar, Sosa Vets: Sauro, Williams, Clark I guess I would go. 1. Zardes 2. Steffen 3. Trapp (HG maybe protected) 4. Afful 5. Valenzuela 6. Mensah 7. Artur 8. Meram (if he does well) 9. Pipa (if he wants another year) 10. Opoku (if GA not protected) 11. Abubakar --------------------- 12. Sauro 13. Sosa 14. Williams
