COLUMBUS CREW SC vs. D.C. UNITED MAPFRE STADIUM • Columbus, Ohio July 16, 2016 • Week 19 • MLS Game #190 7:30 pm ET (MLS LIVE) Based on current form, hope this match ain't a little stinker...
I watched quite a bit of the Columbus v. Toronto game last night (not enough to know who won) and it was dreadful. Toronto played a typical DCU gameplan and kept them from scoring for quite a while. Finally CLB scored on a rebound (which probably should have been called back for offside, because the guy who was "not involved in the play" had to jump out of the way of the ball). Then better stuff came on the Science Channel and I turned the game off. Only other game on was Metros/Orlando and I wasn't gonna watch that dumpster fire. They seem to have Justin Meram trying to play in Higuain's spot and it reminds me of when we have Nick DeLeon play an attacking/creative midfielder - mixed at best, lots of way-off-the-mark passes. They do have some pretty fast guys though.
Ben Olsen talks about Philly loss & Columbus matchup w/ addition of @MrLloydSam.#United60 presented by @Advocare:https://t.co/U2ler3Ehvr— D.C. United (@dcunited) July 14, 2016 Shocking broadcast news at the end
Please elaborate as I really don't want to hear Benny talk about how we need to bring Sam along slowly to help him integrate with the team. James
And Toronto reportedly won with a lot of their backups. I didn't check the roster or anything... just what I read on the Twitter.
That's because no way has been found to make sure that the sound is synched with the play on the field during broadcasts.
Sorry, tied. What I meant was they were still able to tie despite many backups playing. Essentially, Columbus is bad enough that we might not look like crap.
Stellar reporting as usual. TFC has like 5 starters injured right now, Altidore, Bradley, Wil Johnson, Clint Irwin, arguably Morgan, plus Giovinco needed a break and didn't travel, so Vanney went ultra defensive, more of 5-3-2 than the 3-5-2 that was reported. And it was Dilly Duka who'd been with the team about a week who was replacing Higuaín, not Meram. And I'm pretty sure the linesman got that goal call right too. There was a lazy TFC defender on the far side, Mark Bloom I believe who was in his first game back from injury himself, who was keeping Kamara onside. Toronto was lucky to keep that game tied too. The Crew have quite a dynamic attack and Kamara has like 8 goals in his last 6 matches since the other Kamara left. One stat to note, Crew 37 crosses to TFC's 9. The Crew attack wide and Kamara can finish if they continue to pump balls into the box at that rate. Plus, it puts a lot of stress on back post defenders, you know the ones we have who ball watch like they bought a ticket. Not saying DC is in trouble, but they have to be sharp or they will get hammered. Can't come out wishy washey or it'll be over before you know it. On the good side, their central defense is a bit of a shambles right now with Sauro out and no Higuaín to control the possession. I'd say you have to start Sam and Neagle wide and go with Acosta central in order to force them backward because if we cede too much possession allowing their outside backs to get forward and don't put some sort of fear into their central defense, we'll get ground down into a 2-0 loss. If we go ultra defensive as I suspect with the usual suspects like Deleon, Espindola, Jeffrey, maybe Saborio instead of our Kamara, anyway.....the usual hoping to ugly it up for a 0-0 tie at 60 minutes then bring on Acosta and Sam for the miracle, we'll have lost the game by then. This is a situation where a good offense is the best defense. We'll see if Benny sees it that way, or if the Philly loss has him turtling up into the road shell we've seen the past few seasons. I'd prefer Acosta Brava as opposed to Hamid and Hope.
Thank-you Then Dilly Duka was doing a very bad job, whereas Meram was only doing a bad job. Not a surprise as Dilly is awful as indicated by that stupid name. I got my impression from things the announcers were saying. They also mentioned there might have been someone keeping him on, but then never showed a useful replay so I figured it must not be true or they would have showed it. I should first assume incompetence instead. yep
Acosta needs to be inserted slowly in the team so to give him the possibility to better interface with his teammates

Lineup's in: Hamid Franklin-SB-BB-Kemp Sarvas NDL-Jeffrey-Acosta-Sam Saborio 1) Curious to see this center mid pairing. Could end up playing a bit like a diamond rather than flat? I assume the move was made due to Neagle's scratch. 2) I'd really like to see Kamara work his way into the starting lineup, but Saborio does seem to hold up the ball better. He might be what we need for the moment. 3) Boswell had to start between Opare's clunker last week and the physical matchup with their Kamara.
Is Neagle on paternity leave? Nice to see Espindola relegated to the bench Opare suspended so no choice there
Steven Goff Verified account @SoccerInsider Lamar Neagle did not travel with D.C. United. Slight hamstring ailment. With Travis Worra at Richmond, Tally Hall is backuo keeper #dcu
