You were on the mark. And I wouldn't be out entirely. But out on season tickets for sure. I mean, I thought this was the whole point of having Dr. Pete, so the new owners wouldn't crap all over the club's tradition? The colors are a part of that. Plus the fact they are unique and instantly recognizable. Look, I am happy the Haslam's bought us & kept us here. But that does not change my overall opinion of Jimmy (he is a crook & swindler who should have been indicted). Nor do I trust the word of a crook & swindler. Nor will I. I think their intentions are better than Aces' were. No doubt. But I am not gonna let the fact they saved the team turn me into some Aces II: The sequel fan boy (not accusing anyone else of being one, just stating my position) Especially given Jimmy's history. Hopefully this is nada but Inside Man says there is fire there.
Currently watching USL playoffs and I wonder if there's any connection to Nashville coming in and the Crew considering reducing the prominence of yellow. Nashville wears all yellow in USL (it's more of a gold than canary, but their MLS branding looks more like Crew canary yellow) so it wouldn't surprise me if they take that with them to MLS. This is probably drawing a connection where there isn't one, but it's a thought. It's weird to think of a Crew that isn't yellow (or primarily yellow); even Precourt had his tweet about "what did we learn this year? Don't mess with the yellow jerseys."
That's exactly what I was suspicious of. A little conspiracy theory-esque but it wouldnt surprise me if it was MLSs idea, trying to boost the image of a team that as of now seems a little unremarkable...at the expense of a team that they dont value as much.
If I didn't like Tony Peas for Columbus colors I sure as HELL am not going to like BROWN anything! Take away our colors after this many years, since (96)and your pretty much taking away our team again!!! I have been BLACK and Gold,"YELLOW" since 1996 and I am not changing to any other color! In other words they makes us BROWN and take away the colors that identify us as the Team I have been supporting with my time and money since 1996_____it's going to be hard to swallow, even with my eyes shut and a clothes pen on my noise!!!
I would note that these days, a lot of NE Ohioans are Steelers fans anyway, so changing the colors may not bring the big boost one would expect.
I also don't recall anyone making a case that colors would change to Browns colors. In any event, sounds as though the message may have gotten through and our color scheme is safe (for now). Praise be...
Only compromise of a rebrand color shuffle would be black, white and silver with a classic black and yellow retro kit.
Save the Crew had a dry fit columbus tribute jersey that i really like. Black with white sleeves. The sleeves have yellow hoops. Id love for this to be our black kit. but the all yellow kit needs to remain.
I suppose it depends what you mean by "retro kit." There's nothing "retro" about the club's color scheme. Retro implies some sort of throwback look, like those olde timey baseball unis that MLB occasionally trots out. Plus, there is no black & yellow retro kit. I mean, sure, there have been times when the Crew's combined, say a yellow jersey with black shorts. But primarily, we've sported a black kit (with varying hints of yellow) and a yellow kit (with varying hints of black). Backing away from yellow in any substantive way is just a godawful dumb and unnecessary idea. The club's look, across its entire history, has been not only consistent and unique, it's been annually one of the top rated uniforms in the league. It ain't broke. I said it in a an earlier post, but rumors that the club is even considering this lead me to ask the question: What part of "Respect Your Roots" do you not understand?
By "retro kit", the primary colors of the club and crest would be something other than black and yellow (lets just say black and white for the sake of the argument) but the club would also have a black and yellow classic kit for their history, plus the checkered flags n all. I think the color change is very unlikely but Im just trying to think, IF true, what the hell would be remotely acceptable?
Well, we used to have a fair amount of white in our jersey. So there's that. Guess we'll have to wait and see what - if anything - comes of this.
2012-2014 brings back memories from 1996-1997, but I wouldn't exactly call it retro. It's probably as close as we got. If they ever bring anything retro back, it would be borderline criminal if it was not the 2002 gray kits. But yeah, the primary color of the team absolutely must be yellow.
