It is that time of year again.
Tonight Caldas has to try and get a point (or more) in Brazil against Corinthians.
Not a good match-up at all.
Frankly, I will be happy with a 1 goal loss result and the winning goal by Stiven Mendoza. :p

Once Caldas shambolic in defense and attack. They were good in the midfield, but absolutely abysmal going forward. They should have taken advantage of having 1 more man before they got a red card. Poor from Caldas overall, they're out for me.

Shame result considering they have a good history in copa libertadores.

They simply don't have the funds

Well, I said it was not a good match-up and it ended being that way.

They are owned by a big US corporation.....

They have money they just don't want to spend it

I doubt that US corporation will expend funds for a club that doesn't draw a consistent crowds. Despite success or failure

Good win for Santa Fe last night. Anytime you can get 3 points in Mexico you take it and run.
Historically we have not done well there so this was a surprise to me. Good start for them.
Hopefully Nacional does well in their first match too.

    Santa Fe is looking good.
Dominant over Colo Colo and their win against Atlas looks much better now.

Big game for Nacional tonight. Let's see if the forwards can score some goals.

Not a good result for Santa Fe.
Only thing good about this match was Shermanator's wining assist on a corner for Mineiro.

Santafe had a few chances but they were unlucky. Mineiro's goalie was very iffy but made a couple of good saves and there was a great shot that hit the crossbar around the 80'. Mineiro won with little quality and effort and they're back in contention, the group is now open for any one, which is a shame because Santafe could have locked 80% of the ticket with a victory. Perez did not look very sharp and I have a feeling that resting him against Millos actually ended up costing the Cardenales 5 points.

So Santa Fe get's one of the best road results I have seen in the Libertadores and no one here is talking about it?

What a shocker that was winning 0-3 in Chile!

Think people are waiting for them to qualify. They still have to win the last game same as Nacional

    What happened to Armani? Injured?

Think Santa Fe has a more complete team. Nacional just has a way Better coach.

I just don't like Santa Fe they play boring old school #10 soccer. 2 guys mark Perez and they have 0 ideas.

One good thing is both teams just need to get a point at home and they are in. Much better odds compared to last year when all the Colombian teams needed results on the road in order to make it into the knockout stage.
I like both Santa Fe and Nacional's chances this year.

Sucks that both teams are on the same side of the bracket.
But the bright side is if they both somehow reach the Quarters we are guaranteed a Colombian team in the Semis.

According to wiki no matter what if both win their next games they play each other in the semis.

Totally shocked they both finished 1st in their groups. Now Once Caldas shit performance is even more shocking

    You are right.

    I don't know what I was thinking.

I hope they both do it. Would be great to guarantee a Colombian team in the Final. But They both can also lose to their next opponent. That is how crazy this tournament is.

I think the two teams knocking each out is stupid. That rule should only apply to Argie and Brazilian teams that get 2-3x more teams in SA cups

I don't like the rule either but it is actually not stupid.
I think they did it in the RARE case that two Mexican teams were to make it to the Semis. If they both were to somehow hypothetically win then there would be no fair way figure out a South American representative to the Club World Cup.

Great result for Santa Fe. Just need to win it at home :)

Now Nacional next. Want to see both our team make it to the end.

Yup. Always great to get a road goal and not lose by more than one.

They did waste a lot of opportunities though. The score could have been in their favor if the ball would have bounced more fortuitously for them.
    Oh well.
