This is not fútbol related but I had to share. In honor of Egan Bernal winning the 2019 Tour de France today!!
Those have stadiums and are in the US seem legit Tho bummed they are in the US. Not in Colombia or Europe. So hopefully more SA based guys. When you guys go see games in FL are the stadiums empty? The ones in NYC are always empty.
Always empty in NYC? I’ve been to just about every friendly since 2011 in the nyc area and it’s a mixed bag in terms of attendance. It’s not bc there was a lack of Colombians though, that’s for sure. Ideally we are best for Redbull arena unless we face Argentina or Brazil. It would be cool if we could face a Euro team in the NYC area but I imagine the economics don’t allow for that. The most packed friendly in general I saw at MetLife was Argentina vs Brazil summer of 2012 I think. It rivaled the Copa america 16 games I saw live (us vs peru and Chile/Arg final) in terms of atmosphere NYC and Miami are probably the two best markets for games in the US. I went to see Colombia-Haiti in Miami during 2016 and that was a solid turnout in the baseball stadium. Lots of Haitians and Colombians down south. The most packed game I went to in Florida was 2008 when we faced Jamaica at Lockhart stadium but that was the equivalent of playing At a small college or major High school stadium. I didn’t attend the recent Brazil friendlies in Miami but I heard those had good turnouts. Even when Brazil case to nyc in 2012/13 (you were there) it was a good turnout at MetLife despite how cold it was.
Yeah, last time Colombia played in Miami was against Brazil after the 2014 World cup. They set an attendance record for the state of Florida with over 73,000 people. I'd imagine another big turnout for the friendly between these two in September.
Best wishes and prayers go out to you all from south Florida this weekend. Hope everything turns out ok from Dorian. My family is in Palm Beach/Broward County area.
yes sir, this guy thats coming is a big fella. Just turned into a Cat 4. I feel ok as apparently this thing will be hitting just north of me however we haven't had a thing this strong in years so im a tad worried.
Evacuation can sometimes be more dangerous, specially in a narrow peninsula. Furthermore most of the construction in South Florida is stronger than in the North. Anyways, it looks like Dorian will be turning north before reaching Florida and might miss most of the state.
On the news they were talking about hurricane resistant homes..... wtf is that! A home made out of cement instead of wood?
In south Florida, many buildings - both residential and commercial use concrete construction bc of the hurricanes. One of the reasons why home prices and rents can be pricy in south Florida - higher cost of construction It’s basically a requirement these days in order to get insurance - plus they need to get the hurricane impact windows (which I believe eliminates the need for shutters) but most of those windows are only good for up to category 3 storms.
Mostly correct. Only clarification is that you can have either shutters or impact windows. Until recently impact windows were very pricey, but of lately they have gone down, making them more competitive, especially for new development. Basically south Florida revamped its construction codes after being flattened by Andrew in 1994, making a requirement for all new buildings to be able to withstand winds of up to 170 mph. All the construction systems have to be considered in the code and all the components on the exterior of the structure need to be tested and certified. It definitely makes housing more expensive, but overall the area is safer. Surprisingly enough, the Florida Building code still considers the northern half of the state to be out of the Hurricane Zone, reason why the impact of the storms over there seem to be considerable worse. One last thing. Buildings can be designed to survive hurricanes, but the most damage actually comes from flash floods, similar to what Sandy did in NY. Don’t buy near water ways, as appealing as it can look.
