Ray left because his 5-contract was up after this coming season. He knew he was going to get the heave-ho because his team was going to be shite next year. He really struggled with that program. They have not been to the NCAA's since 2003 and they are not going this coming year. 4 straight non NCAA appearances would have gotten him canned. He knew it so he took the first available job offered. He had to look out for his family since Tracy does not work. The writing was on the wall when they refused to renew him.
So why did they ever leave Clemson? They had something good there. I remember talking to a Clemson dad a few years ago who seemed bitter about how the Leone's just bolted to ASU. I don't know much details but I've always been curious as to why they left Clemson after having much success at a very good soccer school that has a long soccer tradition especially on the men's side.
I checked this out with one of his USD players, she said it wasn't the case. He was always very candid with the team, and not the defiant type with the administration. He had just won coach of the year and offers were pouring in from other schools. He updated his players as the process went on, and told the team that Wake gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.
I'm sure he has been bery "candid" with everyone and yada yada yada. But he was on the verge of getting canned.

Soccer Buzz needs to be better informed. It was reported in this thread a while back, and also on DePaul's site on 3/1 that Erin Chastain is the new coach at the school. http://www.depaulbluedemons.com/article.asp?CatID=11&ID=3307
Based on the links provided by Wildcat 173, it looks like Soccerbuzz had the correct updated information while Soccer America had the information for DePaul incorrect. This is the only time I have seen SA post a coaching list whereas I rely on Soccerbuzz which keeps their list posted all season. I just like giving credit where credit is due.....plus, Soccerbuzz covers lots more college soccer than SA seems to.
CAL's Job Understand that JT, long time assistant did not apply for the head coach job at CAL. The players love her but she has a young son and does not feel she can give the time required. Given this stage of the year, I see her as the interim head coach for the 2007 year and a push for her to take the job w/o interim.
Re: CAL's Job Heard a rumor the other day in the bleachers that Millinder from USC might get the Cal head coach position......and have heard nothing about a replacement for Erin Chastain at SCU.
WOW! A surprise selection. I wonder if Boyd leaving so late made the pool of candidates less than what it would normally be for a PAC-10 job.
How do these coaches get hired at great programs, that have done absolutely nothing at their previous schools? Same with the poser getting hired at SMU? Will the head coach at tusculum a&m get the UNC or UCLA jobs when they open? Guess it is not what you know or who you know, but who you snow.
