I am searching for a beer or anything at work to do a celebratory "F*** yeah" obnoxious fist pump. This has made my day.
Coaching is far from the only issue with the #Rapids96 and it will be interesting to see what the next move is. Keep an 👁 on Josh Wolff. #MLS https://t.co/wqyvUFvNZC— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) May 1, 2019
I'm surprised that Josh Wolff is not a head coach. His name has been trending upwards the for a few years. From all accounts, he's ready. This should an interesting development.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am not in the Wynalda hate camp. He's been blackballed from coaching in some MLS circles. i think he could be a fine manager. He's outspoken. He's controversial to some but his players have repeatedly mentioned how astute he is and how they like playing for him. He does get results. Wynalda seems to be enjoying his time in LV, is making progress with a revamped roster, and you get the feeling he wants to stick to MLS and show he can coach before entertaining a MLS job. I have no idea if that's the case but it feels like that.
Lolno. "Those in the know" aren't likely to think KSE would put up with a guy like Wynalda who is known for running his mouth.

For one, his two runs in the US Cup. Second, his ability to find and jump-start the careers of several Cal FC players who are still plying their trade in USL. His time with the ATL SIlverbacks.... I don't know what to make of that. Decent record but it was a mess from a management standpoint and I don't know how much of part he played in that. At LV he walked into a huge, huge mess from what you read. He's brought in 14 new players and while their record isn't great 2-4-2. They've played an attractive style, have kept games close, and seem to be headed in the right direction. I'll be the first to say, Wynalda's on-field record has not made you sit up and say whoa but he's showed glimpses of being a capable manager. I'm just curious to see if he can sustain that for an extended period of time.
So two runs with a team he custom built for the USOC and he found a couple of USL players? Not exactly screaming "I'm ready for MLS". Plus there's no way KSE hires a mouth like his.
I've seen worse resumes and I've seen better resumes hired in MLS. So it's not an exact science. I don't think Wynalda would be hired as I alluded to in my post. I just think he could be a fine manager but just like a player it has to be the right situation. KSE hired Michael Malone. He isn't exactly a zipped lip coach. He has no problem saying what's on his mind and has rubbed some people around the NBA wrong. However, he wins so he has that going for him so it's a little more tolerated.
One plea. This time, Kroenke, hire a headhunter. No more "worldwide" coaching searches by Padraig Smith, please.
My guess is we will get a re-tread. Reasoning is when they went out and signed players from all over and most turned out poorly, the following year they went exclusively MLS vets. This was either because they questioned their ability to select players that would succeed in MLS or the lack of international slots because they couldn’t remove all the dead weight from previous years.
Josh Wolff has been linked to the job and here's a new name...... a new name I have never ever heard of.....Brian Clarhaut. Saw his name floating around the Twitter-sphere. Apparently, he's a young American - 33 years years old - currently managing Nyköpings BIS (2nd Division Club) in Sweden. It looks like he started out as a GK coach at the club before being named the manager. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Clarhaut
Where? I feel like a lot of these early rumors of people "linked" or "being considered" are a fan or a pundit throwing out a name as somebody they should consider and another fan or pundit running with it and reporting them as "linked" tot he job. Wolff and Wynalda were the first two that seemed to pop up like this. I have yet to see somebody report that they've actually heard from a source with the Rapids that they're looking at any specific name.
Agree, there is no way they have more than a "working" list right now. I fully expect Conor to manage the rest of the season before a HC is named.
You could be exactly right. Twellman, who can hit or miss, did mention Wolff as "one to watch". I guess that's neither a true link or a rumor but Twellman does have his nose to the ground with MLS. So take it for what's it worth.
Not sure why Wolff would walk about from assisting with USMNT? He has been with Berhalter for awhile and USMNT pays well.
I've got it 50/50 right now. I could see one of two scenarios. Scenario 1 is as you mention, let Casey coach the year, figure out the full time coach in the offseason. Scenario 2 is that they've had their eye on somebody already, particularly somebody in a fall-to-spring league, and they'll be available in the next couple weeks to come in. There's been a rumor that they were after a Dutch coach (coach in the Netherlands, not necessarily a coach from the Netherlands) when they were also pursing Hudson. Right now if I had to put money down I'd actually bet on scenario 2 with somebody coming in within the next 2 months but really, I think its 50/50. If Casey gets to July 4th at the interim coach he'll finish the season. I'd be shocked to see anyone hired between there and the offseason. The lure of being the guy in charge as opposed to an assistant can be strong.
Actually its third division, regionalized into North and South conferences. While interesting, he'd be an extremely risky hire. Very young and no experience at an MLS-equivalent (or higher) level. It does check off KSE's "cheap" box, but I don't think Padraig is gonna be willing to roll the dice on someone like that...especially after the way Hudson turned out.
Agreed 100%. Padraig is not in a position to gamble. Quite frankly, I don't think he's in a position to take a gamble on a "hot" assistant like Wolff, Davy Arnaud, or Kerry Zavagnin. If going the assistant route you'd want one with previous management experience and the only two that come to mind are Robin Fraser at TFC and Don Kinnear at LAG. Neither of which jump of the page. This may be the biggest hire in the club's history. It has to be right. It can't be missed. You have to take the right amount of time making the decision. One name that did come to mind but his price tag and arrogance are a HUGE roadblocks -- Bruce Arena. But we know that ain't gonna happen.
