As usual, the CSA is doing a less than stellar job of promoting our games. I've only just found out about the upcoming friendly vs Colombia. This match will be played on 14-Oct, at Red Bull Arena near New York at 9:15pm. The Voyageurs have a small block of tickets for those who are interested. Seems there is no TV or radio coverage, not that I can find anyway. So here's a thread for it!
true, but worth posting here, while I post a lot there recently, i went a good 2 years without visiting for a bit. I'm certainly not the only one.
I am liking the regular playing time our NT is getting. I recall a few years ago when we would go forever between games. Also, while I'd love for the CSA to promote everything, I can see where they'd want to hold off on spending promotional dollars for a game being held outside of Canada. It's not like advertising here is going to pay off in ticket sales.
Is odd that there is not any info. It is not even on the MLS site of scheduled matches. On that same date a USMNT friendly vs. Hondurous is on ESPN. I do not know what the CMT deal is with TSN but the 3 new TSN networks certainly are looking for programming. A TSN/ESPN joint venture here in Broadcasting the match and placing it on both of the many platform options for both networks.
Even if people aren't going to actually go to this one, the CSA should try to keep the national sides' games on the radar of all soccer fans in this country to some extent, even for relatively minor matches such as this. To me it just makes sense to keep as high a profile as possible at all times, that's how a fan base is built.
Your rite they still need to get this on the MLS site main schedule and get the game Broadcast on a Network. Not a ton of costs involved to Broadcast a match and get it onto the mail MLS schedule of events. The Impact play the NYRB there the next week in the CCL, connectiong the two with a broadcast partner to be shown on a Canadian Network.
http://insoccer.ca/2013/12/06/sportsnet-agrees-to-cover-csa-for-another-3-years/ Sportsnet reupped last year. They have CSA's rights till the end of 2016. If sportsnet actually starts caring about soccer, there is huge potential for them to piggyback on the increased NHL exposure and subscription base, a lot of CSA issues have been because games are on SN1 and World, which no one has.
Canada’s squad set for Colombia clash Men's National Team October 3 2014 Canada’s Men’s National Team will face their stiffest test under Head Coach Benito Floro when they take on the third-ranked team in the world, Colombia, Tuesday 14 October at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ, USA. For that task, Floro has selected 22 players that will start with a camp in Cancun, MEX, before making the way up to the northeast of the United States for the final few days of camp in advance of the game. “The match against Colombia will be very difficult for us, due to the quality of the opponent. At the same time, the game will be a very interesting test for us as we need to see our competitive level and our spirit against top teams,” said Floro, who guided Canada to a 3:1 victory over Jamaica last month. “The most important question for us is the attitude and at the same time to keep confidence in our capacity to create chances in the attack.” In selecting his squad, Floro has continued selecting a veteran core of players along with a healthy mix of younger players who will be in the running for a U-23 squad selection. It’s all part of the many projects that Canada will have to juggle in the coming few years with the CONCACAF Gold Cup coming up next year and FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers still to come for the program. “We have youth players with us and I want to show and teach these players how to play in the first team,” said Floro. “My goal for this match against Colombia is to prepare the team and continue to improve how we press our opponents. We need to improve a lot in these situations.” The team will gather in Mexico on Sunday 5 October and will start five days of training the following day. They’ll make the trip up to New Jersey on Saturday 11 October and have two more days of training before the game on Tuesday 14 October. Canadian fans wishing to support the team can join the Voyageurs in the official Canadian supporters section at Red Bull Arena. Ticket information is available on the Voyageurs' website. The Canada-Colombia match will be broadcast live on Sportsnet World and streamed on Sportsnet.ca (kickoff at 21.15 ET / 18.15 PT). Yes Sportsnet really does not appear to have much interest in Canada's pro teams or National team. Even TFC had matches on 360 this year. 360 also dropped NASL. TSN seems much more into it with the MLS national deal and Vancouvers regional rights. TSN losing the NHL National TV deal could look to fill with CMNT among the other sports. TSN3,4,5 still have no idenity yet and how available each network will be. At least one of the new Networks could be made to be very available maybe just a close step below TSN and TSN2
Interesting choices from Floro mainly the youngsters and would be crazy awesome if Canada can win this game.
Now is the perfect time to get the younger generation playing and training time. A complete over haul is the plan. With the new stadiums now up and running more cities able to host matches and get these players some interest from fans. A reno'd BMO as well gives Canada a chance to at least co host a gold cup hsoting their own pool. Saputo also with Natural grass pitch gives a secondary location

Canadian coach Floro continues youth movement John Molinaro October 3, 2014 Canadian men’s national soccer team coach Benito Floro is thinking ahead—not just for this month’s friendly against Colombia but also for next year’s qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympics. Floro on Friday announced his 22-man team for Canada’s friendly against Colombia on Oct. 14 at Red Bull Arena, home of MLS’s New York Red Bulls. Included on the roster are a number of youngsters who have yet to earn their first cap for Canada: Glasgow Rangers defender Luca Gasparotto (on loan with Airdrieonians in Scotland’s League One), and midfielders Manuel Aparicio (Toronto FC, on loan with the Wilmington Hammerheads), Dylan Carreiro (Dundee) and Hanson Boakai (FC Edmonton). Also called into the squad was Cyle Larin, a forward from the University of Connecticut who has played twice for Canada’s senior team, as well as fellow prospects Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare and Karl W. Ouimette, both defenders with the Montreal Impact. Since taking over the coaching reins last summer, Floro has been committed to rebuilding the Canadian program by giving as many young players a chance to earn international experience. His latest roster continues that trend. It’s also a strategic move on Floro’s part. The CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympics in Rio is scheduled for next year. By calling in players who will feature for Canada’s under-23 team in the CONCACAF competition, Floro hopes to give Canada’s youngsters experience in senior matches that will stand them in good stead on the U23 stage. “We have youth players with us and I want to show and teach these players how to play in the first team,” Floro said in a news release. “My goal for this match against Colombia is to prepare the team and continue to improve how we press our opponents. We need to improve a lot in these situations.” Boakai won’t celebrate his 18th birthday until Oct. 28. He was a key member of Canada’s squad at the most recent FIFA U-17 World Cup, and starred for FC Edmonton against the Montreal Impact in this year’s semifinals of the Amway Canadian Championship. Before the NASL season started, Boakai trained with Fortuna Düsseldorf of the German second division. Canadian players are scheduled to meet in Cancun, Mexico this Sunday for a training camp in preparation for the Colombia game. Colombia is No. 3 in the current FIFA World rankings, having reached the quarterfinals of this past summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Canada is ranked a dismal 120th, sandwiched between Haiti and Lebanon. The game on Oct. 14 will be the second half of a doubleheader at Red Bull Arena, following a match between Ecuador and El Salvador. Canada is coming off a 3-1 win over Jamaica last month, a result ended that ended the Reds’ 16-game winless streak. Canada’s previous encounter with Colombia was memorable: A 2-0 win in the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup final in Los Angeles. “The match against Colombia will be very difficult for us, due to the quality of the opponent. At the same time, the game will be a very interesting test for us as we need to see our competitive level and our spirit against top teams,” Floro said. “The most important question for us is the attitude and at the same time to keep confidence in our capacity to create chances in the attack.”

why is Canada only playing one friendly when they could play two friendly games. Canada has played more friendly games but when the opportunity comes even more games can be played. if there is two slots for games I want to see Canada to use both of them not just one most countries play on both when opportunities are there.
maybe the still will get one scheduled. If not another National team could be waiting and play a Canadian Club team. Could be waiting till MLS season ends and to avoid conditions could play Vancouver or TFC at RC for climate control. Who knows maybe even Ottawa at TD place.
Cflsteve I feel that they could have had a game on Friday and Tuesday instead of just Tuesday. Canada has enough players to make that happen even if they could have had players play one game or certain amount of time. CSA promised more games and I feel utilizing each friendly slots is quite necessary and it would help improve the squad and the youngsters
Just because you want a friendly, doesn't mean other teams want to play you. FIFA rankings are like resumes. When higher ranked see that we're ranked 120, then there's no rush to schedule us. The teams around us in the rankings, ie. St. Kitt's, Lebannon, Togo, etc. are either in continental championship qualifying or have cheaper options nearby. The games are not important. They get more out of the fact that they are holding a camp.
Looking at the five teams above Canada and the five teams below Canada in the FIFA Rankings: Tanzania played 1 friendly. They may have been available to play Canada but are far away. Lesotho played 1 Cup of African Nations qualifier and has one more so they weren't available. St. Kitts and Nevis played 3 Caribbean Cup qualifiers. New Zealand didn't play, but they start World Cup Qualifying next October and may not have wanted to play. They're also far away. Haiti played 3 Caribbean Cup qualifiers. Lebanon played 1 friendly and will play another, both against other Asian teams. Cuba didn't play. They might have been available. Canada beat Cuba twice in 2012. St. Lucia played 3 Caribbean Cup qualifiers. Kuwait played 1 friendly and will play another, both against Jordan. Togo played 1 Cup of African Nations qualifier and has one more so they weren't available.
Also consider the fact that we got such a high profile team like Colombia. Probably hungry to avenge 2000.
