I thought this was interesting. That the Xolos added a women's team in SoCal in the WPSL. http://www.wpsl.info/news/index.php?cat=1&id=2278
It's certainly going to be a fun little experiment. It's very understandable for Canadian teams to join US league since Canada doesn't have its own, but this is a first for Mexico. It got some interesting talk on the NWSL and MLS boards back when Xolos made their announcement in August.
I'm planning on heading there (to San Ysidro HS) on the 6th for a home match. For a bus rider (disabled, to boot), they are set up much better than the Sea Lions. Very excited to see how this goes.
I saw a cryptic FB post on Xolas FB that read this: The translation was gobbledygook, but seemed to indicate that their match tomorrow vs. LA Premier was cancelled.
From my own lacking understanding of Spanish, that's what I'm reading, too - "Good evening, we have been told our rival will not be present, so there will be no game". It happens a lot in WPSL, actually, the schedule is very fluid. They're very easygoing with rescheduling games (or just awarding 3-0 forfeits).
OK, thanks. I never got any reply (in fact, my post asking for a translation was deleted). More WWC (and horse racing, if I had remembered) for me.
I went out tonight to what was technically a home match for San Diego Sea Lions, taking on Xolas (Club Tijuana's women's section, who play in San Ysidro). But this match was at Mission Bay High. Very nice, and convenient venue for me. But I think this will be the only time Sea Lions use it (Cathedral's track is being renoed). I didn't muster the guts to ask a Xola what happened with the L.A. Premier match. No biggie. The first half was rather flat, IMHO. But things picked up, including some shoving between the teams late in the match. IIRC, two Xolas were yellowed. But I'll need to read the presser. The match ended 2-1 Sea Lions. Very cool, pleasant weather. Att: probably a few hundred.
