I see no indication that their history either causes or excuses their debt. And I don't think creditors or the FPF or any other authorities give them leeway to them for being "traditional" that they don't extend to "modern" teams.

So them being a traditional team or a made-up, corporate team is pretty irrelevant.

o.o no one excuses them for it. and he wasnt trying to say that them being a historical team causes it. He was just saying they feel they can justify still referring to themselves as a professional setup because theyve 'been a great club and have a tremendous history'. they are far from professional, and everyone but themselves sees it.

Being a traditional team isnt irrelevant, because its something that still makes them proud and makes them capable of sweeping stuff like this under the rug with 'justification'.

But they do have a tremendous history and have been a great club. Why should they stop feeling proud of this? If they stop saying it (of feeling it) you think it'll make the problems go away?

It seems like a lot of you guys want to strip away any last bit of dignity these clubs have and even get mad when they show a bit of pride. Boys's and Muni's dirigentes have screwed them over, so as punishment, their fans should stop supporting them and stop mentioning that they actually do have a special place in Peruvian futbol history? I don't get it.

    all past tense

they are no longer a great club and no longer bring anything useful to the table, history is nice if you can build on it

for all i care they can stay in segunda until they can at the very least pay their players on time (they deserve that much)

What I can't wrap my head around is how it's possible for these people to not realize what's in front of them, I can't help to imagine if San Martin's front office was to switch with Boy's .....

They have a special place in football history, they were a great club, they should be proud of what they accomplished. The ones who accomplished it and the fans who stick through it all anyways. They can be proud of who they were, but they cant use who they were as justification for who they are today. They are no longer a great club and history cannot hold them up. And comparing this Sport Boys to the Sport Boys of days past is a tragedy. People would roll over in their graves. Sport Boys fans would agree. Its not the 'clubs' fault, mind you, like I said they were great. The owners/managers/etc are crap, but they use history they cant own up to as an excuse. They dont deserve it.

This isnt about the fans, fans can be proud. But its as you said, the dirgentes have done this, and theyre the ones using history to excuse themselves, not the fans. I doubt any Sport Boys fan will tell you their club is a model for others to follow today.

It should draw your ire as well if these 'dirigentes', who brought this great team down to the gutter, say "we're a historical team with great history". They are synonymous with the present, they are the cause of the team's present. And the present is dire. Thats the past and they have no right to bring it up because they havent even close to met those expectations and they had no impact on the teams past. Fans and the players who stick it out with this team deserve praise. Not the institution they are today. Because they are not the institution of days past.

Once again, when have they used their history to "justify" anything about today? I've literally never once heard them say or imply that because they have history their debts should be forgiven or their mismanagement should be overlooked or that they should be allowed back in to 1st division or anything similar to this.

They're getting treated exactly like every other team is treated. But it seems like people like condor want them to be treated harsher than any other team. They want them disbanded or to somehow cease to exist for the grave crime of being mismanaged.

Of course that's a very top-down, corporate way of looking at clubs. Like any company, they should stop operations once they're no longer "profitable" and it boggles the mind when this doesn't happen.

But fortunately in most of South America and Europe, clubs aren't seen this way. Profit isn't the lone thing that decides whether a club continues to exist or not, fans and community do. As long as there is fan support, the club will continue and the footballing world (especially those with strong football culture like England and Argentina) is full of teams that languish in the lower divisions for decades and decades but still exist because of its fans.

I liked the point they made about there not being a chalaco identity anymore because Lima and Callao are pretty much one city.
