He sets his record with the goal in the Final. You gotta imagine Arena starts him and all the guys pass directly to him, so they can get that assist.
I have say Dempsey is a truly inspiring American player. Regardless of how Donovan stacks up as a different kind of player, Dempsey is a classic. No question. I loved how the Ticos were congratulating him after the match. The chat with Bryan Ruiz was great to see
We had much of the ball against CR but we won't have much against what I presume will be Mexico so you need young guys who are willing to run all day and play the bunker counter game. I doubt Demspey gets the whole match if we see Mexico. Jamaica is fast but we will have more of the ball against them and I could see Deuce starting that one.
I sure hope not. Playing a game centered around getting a guy a record is a recipe for disaster and a big finals loss.
Guys. I've watched Clint Dempsey his whole career like many of you. He was world class last night. No other way to put it. Was just special. I still think Landon Donovan was a better soccer player. Way more complete. That being said, I'm still going to give credit where credit is due. When Dempsey retires from international play, games like last night will be games that I look back on when talking about his legacy. Pure class last night. He was just special.
LD was a more gifted player. Dempsey has been more accomplished, though. Also..it could be said that LD underachieved while Dempsey overachieved.
But cannot be referred to in as "The..." in the singular. That's just syntactically false. "co-leader" seems to be the most accurate term. My hopes are that finding the right wording will be only a temporary issue, when he finally scores against Mexico on Wednesday (fingers crossed)
I don't. It was at the end of the foxsoccermatchpass footage where there was a bunch of raw feed of the players mingling. They exchange jerseys and had a good laugh together. It was cool. Altidore also was quite chummy.
The wife is a long time Dempsey hater. After his goal last night, she turned to me and said, "OK I don't hate him anymore." So there's a tribute for Deuce. Of course about 3 minutes later he did a fancy turn in traffic that lost the ball - exactly why my wife "used to" hate him.
The Great Drunken Boxer. Im looking forward to see him in the World Cup. You know he's going to go out firing.
To say he is a leading goal scorer sounds funny. To say he is the all time leading scorer sounds better. Either way, I think it is inevitable this argument will be moot before he retires.
I was watching the same feed (360 coverage) on the Fox Sport Roku app and I'm pretty sure I could read Dempsey's lips calling out "Bryan". Some of my best soccer memories are of Dempsey and Fulham's relegation battles along with their Europa League run.
