If anyone has a pic of Laudrup making a no-look pass, please share (been trying to find one for a while).
The other fallen player is Lothar Matthäus, next to him stands sweeper Ditmar Jakobs and then Hans-Peter Briegel.
Probably the most famous goal scored by a German player is that scored by Fritz Walter in 1956 in Leipzig. It was a historic meeting, as the best West German side (1. FC Kaiserslautern) met the best East German side (Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt). The game was staged in Leipzig and the stadium was packed with 110,000 fans (highest ever attendance figure in Germany). Kaiserslautern won 5-3, it was a very big occasion and Fritz Walter scored an incredible goal with his heel while flying thru the air: It's a pretty iconic photo in Germany.
two more of cruijff... just ahead of his debut in 1964 ------------------------------------------------ i see this famous picture in life-size every time i go to the ArenA press box
What shirt number is Greaves wearing there? 11? Back in the sixties shirt numbering was still taken very seriously, that's why I find it surprising that he wore the #11 shirt, which would be that of outside left (but in this pic attacking from the right!). Always had him down as a pure inside forward, not as a winger.
Well, this was from a West Ham-Stoke City match in 1971-at the end of his career. Perhaps the other traditonal numbers were taken-I don't know much about West Ham's history.
Nothing really historical here. I only add this because when I began following the sport around 1978 Keegan was my favorite player during that time even though I never cared for Hamburg. Brings back many great memories seeing "Mighty Mouse" in that HSV kit.
The Belgians are coming out of a defensive wall they didn't really use six outfield players to man mark Maradona, that would have been stupid.
Although the focus is on players, I think this picture is deserving. The whistle has blown and England are champions of the world. And Alf Ramsey...well, looks as if he's waiting for the wife to bring a fresh roll of toliet paper.
Giuseppe Signori taking one of his trademark penalties, which he rarely missed. He'd stand right next to the ball and just place it into the net, fooling the 'keeper every time. http://giuseppesignori.tripod.com/Rigore1.jpg (another picture)
Real Ray will like this one. Marco Tardelli, screaming for joy, face tear-streaked, after putting a brilliant goal by Schumacher in the 1982 World Cup final (3-1):
Here's a great one (and it's been seen here recently in the Brazil draft and all-time draft). It really is the best Ronaldo pic out there I think.
Michael Laudrup: The Picture is from the Albertini Match 15/3 - 2006 Classic Laudrup posture: Low balance point - Quite elegant
