What is the status of Chris Pontius? I saw he was taken out right before the game with New England, then he did not play against Chicago.

Calf injury. They were working on him on the field Sunday just as pre-game practice ended. He was a late scratch, replaced by Conor (Zlatan) Doyle.

Since we're on the subject, injuries or not, Chris really needs to come out of this season accomplishing something-- even if that's simply finding his role on the team.

Cause honestly, right now he doesn't have one in my opinion, and that's not all down to injury.

Depending on his contract status, he may not be here next year. For reals.

At this point, unless he can get back a quick step, I'm afraid Pontius will be a great B-Squad forward in CCL games but not an MLS starter. Maybe, if he exhibits real soccer brains, he can come on as a late sub to rag the ball and protect a lead. ya know - sorta like Connor Doyle

At this point, I'm feeling like "Pontius" should be a descriptor on the injury scale.

Probable = 75% chance to play
Questionable = 50% chance to play
Doubtful = 25% chance to play
Pontius = 10% to know if he'll have a 50% chance to play or not 2 hours before kickoff, but probably not, because Pontius.

I came around quite a bit about him this year. Through the first few games I agreed with this assessment.
Despite Conor's goal last night, I'd take Pontius over him 100 times out of 100. Pontius does not have the scoring touch he used to, but he's done a lot of good things for this team on both sides of the ball. If Rolfe, Espindola and one other attacker (whether it's a healthy Silva, a better Coria, or DeLeon) out there, there's room for Chris. Not as a lock stater, but as a sometimes starter and sometimes sub. If he gets healthy again of course.

Sure, but then the question becomes, at what price?

I've given up on Pontius. He needs a new home and we need his salary for some quality player(s).

I tend to agree. There is a chance that this is a Rolfe situation in that he just needs a change of scenery to do well again. I still think enough of him to hope that he does well except against DCU.

PS Please don't trade him to Red Bulls or the Galaxy.

True. He's far from worth the salary we're paying him. When does his contract end?
I was trying to at least make something of him since we DO have to pay him.

The longer he stays out the better it is, for me. Even Doyle seems to be a better choice by now...

I thought he was starting to get his wheels back right before he got hurt. Typical Pontius.
Hasn't been a good year though, he looks ponderous.
I'm sentimental though, I think he'll play a part in the success of the season.

If DC dumps his salary before 2016, that plus the Johnson money mean this team should be aLOT better next year. (Franklin will probably be gone or on a smaller salary, as well.)

If Kasper was half as competent scouting the foreign market as he is scouting the US market, I'd be excited about that.

Quoted for truth. Pontius can be a better player than Doyle, but he isn't one now.
