http://nyrb.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1400429&player=28317812 CHRIS GLOSTER #17 PLAYER PROFILE Year of Birth: 2000 Position: Hometown: Harrison , NJ Nationality: United States EDUCATION Graduation Year: 2018 Looks like he is considering Germany when he turns 18: Of these recent U-17 players, one particular note is that New Jersey’s Christopher Gloster is now listed as unattached where he was previously tied to the Red Bulls. There are signs that Gloster might try to head abroad sooner than later with Schalke showing interest. http://www.americansoccernow.com/articles/thoughts-on-the-u-s-youth-summit He played in all 5 matches at the U17 World Cup, going 90 minutes in 4 of the matches.
This paper claims Hannover has a commitment: http://www.sportbuzzer.de/artikel/h...s-us-talent-chris-gloster-new-york-red-bulls/ Christopher Gloster is the new full-back talent of Hannover 96. The nine-time US Under-17 player changes in the summer on the leash. The transfer was preceded by a two-week trial.
Nothing too interesting in the article that isn't already clear. It makes a reference to Steve Cherundolo without giving his name, saying that Hannover has had good experiences with fullbacks from the USA. Apparently Gloster had a two-week trial at Hannover, and the article expects him to play with the U-19s next season.
Sad to see him officially leave Harrison, but not surprised. Hannover is 7 points clear of the relegation playoff and 14 clear of automatic relegation, so hopefully he can manage to snag a few Bundesliga minutes next season.
Left back is so devoid of talent and depth Between he, Antonee Robinson and Sergino Dest hopefully one can break through with their club
I like this move a lot. He has shown some ability, but always was a little sloppy and not as committed on the defensive side as he needed to be. I’m hoping a move to Germany will help push him to improve.
Promising player. Willing to get in the attack , the expected poor first touch and a better defender than most.
It's official https://www.hannover96.de/aktuelles...96-verpflichtet-gloster-zur-neuen-saison.html in english http://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-t...us-youth-international-defender-chris-gloster seems to be for the U19 with a possibility of more. "We expect a lot from him, also with a view to the senior team," Michael Tarnat, the head of Hannover's academy, told the club's website. "He made a good impression during his two-week trial here."
Why give your own youth at tangible first team opportunities when you can sign up central and South American talent using Tam/gam/dtam/wambam!
Yes, but NYRB is definitely one of the best, if not the best in MLS at integrating HG talent. Five HG players saw the field vs. Tijuana last night and two more that originally signed with their USL team. This is a club that will likely make around a combined $10 million off Miazga and when they eventually sell Adams. Plus, the $10 million they got for Jozy some 10 years ago. Gloster had a HG offer, he was just set on Europe. Gloster had some good options in front of him.
You can bitch at a lot of MLS teams for this. The Red Bulls are not among that group. They've signed a bunch of youth players to pro terms at both the USL and MLS level to prevent this, and they have done very little of the South and Central American purchasing that is referenced in the second post. In their CCL game last night, 5 of the 14 players who made appearances were academy products, 2 were initially signed to the USL team, and 1 was from Long Island and recently acquired via trade. Without youth compensation schemes in place, there's only so much a club can do to prevent a kid from going abroad for free. You can't force him to sign a contract if he doesn't want to.
Called up to the U-19 MNT, which will play in the Slovakia Cup: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...an-ukraine-and-czech-republic-in-slovakia-cup
Echoing the point of others, he would be playing for the Red Bulls sooner than later had he stayed. The Red Bulls do have a well-established open pathway to the first team for homegrowns. I get why young players want to go to Europe. That's fine and it's natural. But something has to be done about the lack of compensation. It's staggering. I mean FC Dallas developed McKennie for free at the benefit of Schalke. The second place Bundesliga team got a starter for nothing. The Red Bulls developed Gloster for free for Hannover. It's beating a dead horse but jeeze. It's definitely not a good thing. MLS clubs are getting better at developing but it would be a shame if they only see the benefit from the second-tier prospects they develop and don't get any return on the first-tier talent they develop. It's hard to justify investing in that kind of model.
Are they offering their top prospects market value? (This isn't a loaded question. I don't know the answer.)
