Re: Taiwanese Football On The Alert

    A Straightforward End

Knowing the cause and effect of the incident, the abandonment of Chungshan Soccer Stadium was nothing more than a strike to bring the people who really care about local football's future back to reality. The reality, in addition to the familiar words "The authorities don't give weight to sport," also includes the inevitable, shortsighted persons, ranged from the ordinary citizens to government officials.

To tell the truth, Chungshan was actually founded by the government ten years or more before. Despite the little advantage compared to nowadays in FIFA rankings, the circumstances were the same, poor. But at then not only we got a considerably great though amateur First Division League, but also the clubs supported by some government organizations and the army, playing games regardless of big or small. We all have known that a national team's climb-up in FIFA rankings, or speaking frankly-promotion to 2nd (or just 2.5th) class from 3rd class in footballing world needs much money, manpower, and time..but the people of this country don't like to wait, in general. This kind of expression reflects on the priority of many policies for politicians, in the process of drawing or practicing. So, here we continue working on the not-so-popular sports (the author is cowardly to tell you of which they are); The media just report our success in a tournament of not-so-popular sport, adding "The Taiwanese Pride" to the news title, and we applaude..that's it, nothing we will do to help the players. It may also cause people to discuss about the future of miscellaneous (actually world popular) sports on the web-forums, and after the hype, every time, we still don't care about them. The society would not regard sporting career as a worthy investment.

At first, the author planned to write the article series, Taiwanese Football Alert, in journalism style. However, with more information collected, it’s more complicated to finish it: some may say the closure of Chungshan Stadium is all the authorities' faults, but I'd think it has something to do with the mass' general likes or dislikes. Altogether, the mixed thoughts not only did terminate the ongoing writings about the subject, but also put a temporary end to my appearances in the topics of BigSoccer forum, especially the section of All Asia, since June 2008..because I didn't know that posting complaints about the primitive, crappy circumstances our football community faces is good or not. So I just quit joining the talks afterwards, sorry.

Maybe just after the incident being reported on TV, the quarrels were forgotten, little by little. But the history of domestic football, or the one of sport development, in here, will record the event, undoubtedly.

New Venues =\= New Turning Point

To tell another truth, the stadium's closure was delayed to last December, due to the pressures in all respects. Thus, the remaining league games and other major matches could annotate the end of the venue in time. On the other side, this year, Taipei and Kaohsiung City have been prepared for the upcoming Deaf Olympics and World Games, finishing the reconstruction of an old venue and the establishment of a new stadium separately. Part of the local football fans think of that as a turning point, claiming that we have two venues capable of holding all of the important international matches, but the author has a different view: based on the issues appeared in Chungshan Soccer Stadium's history (being lent to live performances and the most ridiculous, a circus show for some time ago,) the question about the potential landmark for Republic of China's football-how much room these two venues would give to the local football, seems only God knows the answer. END

It was the first local football competition being live-broadcasted on television since 2005. The most impressive match of our NT should be the 1-2 loss to North Korea;. No matter what, there's still hope for the future.

TSW Pegasus coach Chan Hiu-Ming confirms that Chen Po-Liang is having a trial with the club. He insists that Chen Po-Liang must perform better than local Hong Kong players for him to be signed-on.

Chinese Taipei captain Chen Po-Liang (right) scored in a training match yesterday. TSW Pegasus Coach Chan Hiu-Ming said Po-Liang is intelligent and very skillful. He is competing with Japanese player Iori Naya (left) for the only Asian player place in the team, as TSW Pegasus prepares for the 2011 AFC Cup.

TSW Pegasus has signed Chinese Taipei captain Chen Po-Liang to be their Asian player in AFC Cup. Coach Chan Hiu-Ming said Chen Po-Liang is a gifted attacking midfield player, the type of which they lack in their line up. With Chen Po-Liang and Leandro Carrijo joining, he hopes the team can make an impact in the AFC Cup.

Hong Kong Olympic football team will play Chinese Taipei Olympic football team at 3:30pm at So Kon Po, followed by TSW Pegasus vs Chinese Taipei National football team at 5:30pm. Chen Po-Liang will play for TSW Pegasus against his Chinese Taipei teammates.

Hong Kong Olympic football team will play Chinese Taipei Olympic football team at 3:30pm at So Kon Po again on Wednesday, then Kitchee will play Chinese Taipei National football team at 5:30pm.
