    Chinese Taipei vs Uzbekistan News

Chinese Taipei called up 3 new faces for the incoming fixture against Uzbekistan at home (2007/3/14)

    From Leadtek SportNews
    (Rewritten by midmaestro)

Chinese Taipei has no fixtures for about three months since the end of AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. But eventually on Mar 24, there will be an international friendly scheduled for the side against Uzbekistan. To prepare for the uncommon match, Imai Toshiyaki, who is the present head coach of Chinese Taipei, confirmed the final 24 players as the line-up, including the veteran Tsai Hui-Kai (Tatung FC) and other two new faces. The team will begin pre-match training at National Sports Training Center on Mar 19 and then go up to Taipei just four days later.

The date was set as an official match day in FIFA Calendar, and long ago in 2006 November the Uzbek's FA has sent an invitation to schedule the match. According to some sources, the Uzbeks will go straight to meet China just after the match is over.

Uzbekistan's women's team just visited Taiwan last month for the Olympic qualification tournament, and they performed just average. But the level of the men's side is quite different, since Uzbekistan is ranked 5th among Asia countries in the latest FIFA World Ranking. The last head-to-head match between the two sides can be dated back in 2004 World Cup qualifier in Chunshan Stadium. The home team fought defending for almost 90 minutes and finally was saw off by nil-to-one scoreline.

Compare to the squad for last year's Asian Cup Qualifiers, Chinese Taipei lost some key players this time, especially for the goalkeeper Lu Kun-Chi, who was transfered recently to Grulla Morioka, which is a member of a Japanese amateur league. However Imai has added some support to the national team for enlisting Tatung FC's Tsai Hui-Kai, NTSC's Chen Chang-Ming and Pan Wei-Chih the goalkeeper. Pan is regarded as the successor of Lu Kun-Chi to fill the vacancy for the No. 1 goalie position; Tsai has good fitness who is capable of positions like center-back or CDM. He stayed as the main force for Chinese Taipei's WC team in 2004. In 2005 he had a serious knee injury and missed the opportunity to participate in the East Asian Games competition.

Due to taking care of his sick child, Tsai could only join to the squad when the team arrives at Taipei. Undoubtedly Tsai is one of the best players for the national team, and dismissing the player in the friendly match or the upcoming East Asian Championship Qualifier is a loss to the national team without question.

The most important mission for Taiwan is to qualify for the EAFF Championship held in China this year. Definitely they have to pass the test of the qualifiers in Macau began on June 15. Thus, after the friendly versus Uzbekistan, the home team will move to Tokyo and Morioka in Japan to go on some more training, hoping to gather strengths and beat Hong Kong and North Korea to enter the finals.

East Asian Cup News: Chinese Taipei Lost The Opportunity To The Finals As Hong Kong Swept Over Guam

On the third matchday of 2008 East Asian Cup Prelimaries Round, Chinese Taipei only needed a good performance from Guam to prevent Hong Kong winning the Group B and continuing to the final. However, a 15-1 scoreline from Hong Kong snuffed out Taiwan's hope as the latter lost by four-goal difference. A third-placed match will be held at 3pm on this Sunday, and there's still a chance to prove Chinese Taipei's growth in recent times while facing the host Macau.

The final will be a clash between Group A winner North Korea and Group B winning team Hong Kong. The match will start at 9pm following the thrid-place match, and the victor will get the entrance to the final round of this biennnal tournament.

still a nice result against Hong Kong! Lokah Formorsa!;)

As I said before, I came from a football(soccer) desert.

The only one FIFA-approved stadium in Taiwan will be closed up on July 1, 2008. Though the NT still can play WC qualifiers against Uzbeks at homeground, there is doubt on the hosting for AFC Challenge Cup. Some of the players went to Pakistan this month. Some play in the league games. I'm not sure if it is 'the way' our FA make the national team trained.

[Speculator Report] Chinese Taipei 0:2(0:0) Uzbekistan

    Scorers: 81" Inomov Islom(UZB), 90" Suyunov Ilhomjon(UZB)

This match is by far the best one I've ever speculated since our NT's match against Syria in Feb 2006. Local fans were all applauded with merely 3 shots on goal from the team, while Uzbekistan players were snuffed out by our defense for many times until the late second-half.

Our goalie Lu Kun-Chi was the crowd's hero tonight. There were about five times that he punched long-shots and close-shots from Uzbekistan, but he failed to save Islom's quick shot and Ilhomjon's powerful free-kick; All our player were fatigued in the last 20 minutes, thus we were bombed eventually... What a tragedy!

I am not sure if Uzbek players felt that they can score easily as in the previous match, but what I saw live was they didn't concentrate on the game. Maybe they didn't want to hurt the home-ground fans furthermore? ToT

I don't have any cameras so no videos or graphs are available in my own. But what I'd like to know is if Uzbekistan's squad for this match was still strong, though Maksim Shatskikh did not play? If so, then I think our players have improved a lot in attacking. However, those chances should be converted to at least one goal! Only when someday I see Taiwan score against Middle or West Asian teams, I will take our national team as a potential powerhouse seriously.

PS. About the Chungshan Stadium closed-up incident, Taipei City Government has decided to delay the closure to December 2008. AFC Challenge Cup and other football games will be on as scheduled.

Actually, this was our second team. There were none of our foreign players in today's match against Taiwan.(like-Shatskikh, Ibragimov, Bakaev,Denisov, Nikolaev,etc..)

BANGKOK, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Thailand has replaced Taiwan as host of the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup, the winners of which are guaranteed a place at the 2011 Asian Cup finals in Qatar, the Asian Football Confederation said on Thursday.

Thailand was given the nod because Taiwan could not guarantee it would meet the AFC's standards for hosting the 16-team tournament, contested by Asia's lowest-ranked countries.

Not meeting the standards is an excuse. The main reason maybe, said by a local footballer who have worked in our FA headquarter, is that Thailand really wants this tournament to be hosted on their home soil. But anyway it is all rumors.

I don't understand why Thailand want this tournement hosted on their home soil, when Thailand shouldn't really be taking part anyway?

If they do take part then they will have to use the Under 23's as the full national team would be too strong - but then i guess, Thailand are hoping to enter so they can seal qualification for Qatar 2011 very easily.

Im not sure if AFC will allow them to play , maybe they are only to be hosting the matches and not participate themselves ?
