Croatian coach is satisfied with the result. Because they had only one training and because of equipo mezclado.
Now he builds the quality of China, so that he can say that Croatia achieved the third place. I expected the Chilean victory, maybe in first 90 minutes, without the penalties, but Croatia is bad in penalties anyway. It was visible how Chileans shoot, in technical mode with amusing body expressions like they do this everyday. Toselli seemed much more confident, he reacted with hand gesticulations. Livakovic was too calm, busy with the spitting of his gloves.
Media say that Croatian goalkeeper was good during the match. Good tournament in this year has gone with the wind for Croatia. Without EURO, World Cup year, this was a nice chance to win something interesting, even with reserve squads participations.

Congrats to Chile, good luck against Iceland.:)

The positive. Galdames seems to be the real deal, and the defense was ok. Croatia was a good rival. Now to the final.

Do you know if this match counts as a FIFA friendly? If so, this counts as a draw and was a terrible result for us, for Croatia its not as bad because at least it was a draw with a team ranked 4th, but it could hurt our ranking.

I hope this match does not count for points in the FIFA rankings. IMO friendlies should not count. There are too many variables... changes in players, not the same motivation, plenty of debuts for young players, etc.

If it turns out we miss on being seeded for the 2018 because of this friendly cup I am going to be mad.

Me gustó Valencia, dejó solo a Vargas 2 veces.

I don't think that these matches are included as FIFA friendly. It's just one cup, organized for promotional character. Independent tournament. Usually, it's written FIFA friendly.

Ranking is not something special, for me it's the same if Croatia end 20th, or 5th. These pots are maybe important, but Croatia gets always someone from South America at World Cups, or former European Champions at EURO's. Even in current Russia 2018 qualifications, Croatia has: Turkey, Ukraine, Iceland, Kosovo. Without teams like San Marino, Andorra, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein...sometimes it can be complicated against Turkey, Ukraine and defensive against Iceland.

Chile will be in one of pots in Russia 2018. You can't meet South American teams anyway in Group stage. With Europeans you seem in advantage, it can be tight only against Germany, Spain, France. Others are much weaker.

It would be cheaper if Fernandes and Henriquez went with Croatian team directly in China and meet later with their team members.

I think seeding is important because if we get a weaker group we have the chance to rest players a bit. For the last World Cup we suffered injuries from the start, we have a solid starting 11... but if we start losing starting players we start to get considerably weaker. We don't have the depth of Germany or Spain to bring the same quality from the bench so every little bit helps.

Also we might win the group and not face Brazil for once... :)

Croatia was 5th, 6th often at FIFA Ranking, but even with this fact, Croatia met Brazil two times, Argentina once, Ecuador once, Mexico two times. Only against Argentina Croatia played in a third match which was not important, but all others were very important with defeats in every match.

With European teams Croatia has much better history at world cups: victory against Romania, Germany, Netherlands in 1998, victory against Italy in Japan 2002.

At EURO's, victories against Denmark at EURO 1996 (title holders in 1992), Turkey in 1996, draws against France and Switzerland in 2004, victories against Austria, Poland, Germany at EURO 2008, draw against Italy at EURO 2012, victory against Ireland, victory against Spain and Turkey at EURO 2016 and a draw against Czechs.

World Cups are always with some problems. That's why in Europe this ranking doesn't mean too much. For South America it's important because of the knock out stage.

Better European teams at the moment are: Portugal, Germany, maybe England, Belgium and Spain. Others belong in the lower category.

For Chile, Belgium seems nice to play with, because they are slower.

England changed a little, they have some nice players: Eric Dier, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana, Theo Wallcott, Harry Kane, Danny Welbeck, Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard.

I'm always worried that Belgium might actually click one day and start playing to their potential... I think

I doubt that they will do something major, 5th - 10th positions is their reality.

    Reasons:

    - their altitude, slower performance.
    - many players like to save the ball for themselves
    - Belgium is not united, French, Dutch, different immigrant groups.
    - weaker domestic coaches
    - a lot of injured players

But the will have their great individual quality with technical abilities. With Spanish-Catalan coach, they could embrace their style (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico).

    I like to watch Belgium.

I wouldn't bet on it. They are a the definition of a team that has all the talent but lacks cohesiveness. In addition, virtually every one of their star players, including Hazard, Lukaku, Kompany, etc. have all had unusually extended "bad spells". Hazard at times last season looked he belonged in the Championship. And despite how talented they typically are, how consistently are Belgian players actually fighting for the Champions League year in and out? Not many.

This, among other things, makes me think you ain't got nothin to worry about.
