Mail mix-ups meant my ballot would not have been returned in time to be counted, so I did not vote. And in any case, most of my options were pretty awful. Rick De Santis, Rick Scott, et al, none of whom I would have voted for, and (as has been well established in this thread) I couldn't bring myself to vote for the democrats in those races either. Do feel a little bad though, its the first election, primary or general, that I haven't voted in since I turned 18.
I voted entirely for one party for the first time in my life. The 6th and the 14th are shockingly close in traditionally conservative districts.
Beto O'Rourke loses and Ted Cruz the blobfish wins in Texas. This, officially, keeps the Republicans in charge of the Senate. Especially as Claire McCaskill is getting her ass kicked in Missouri, Donnelly losing in Indiana, and Heidi Heitkamp sadly getting destroyed in North Dakota. Sen. Heitkamp voted (properly) against Kavanugh, even if that was going to cost Sen. Heitkamp her job. The only good news is that NBC is calling the House for the Democrats. A lot of big questions still up in the air.
I pray that Mueller's report nails Trump to the wall. While gaining control of the House is great and important, the numbers yesterday make 2020 look like it's going to be a very tough fight. Florida going for DiSantis and Gov Bat Boy was not a good sign. While not as bad as 2018, the 2020 Senate races aren't set up for enough Dem pickups to change control of that chamber. The Supreme Court is going to be a constant source of disappointment and the rest of the courts are going to get pulled further to the right. IL making recreational weed legal may help my mood some, but the next 2 years are going to be almost as bad as the last 2, unless Mueller nails Trump to a wall.
Yes to the library No to getting rid of home rule. I see very little waste from our admittedly high taxes. That's why our schools/library/park district compete with much wealthier cities. And from a more self centered standpoint, those things are what keep our home values up.
Prior to yesterday’s repeal in Florida, “more than 21 percent of potential black voters in Florida unable to vote due to felony records.” That law was overturned and as odd as it is for me to say this, there’s hope for Florida yet.
jesus cricket crunching christ, sal. Voting isn't picking out a band tshirt to wear to the mall. let me explain this in words as small as I can muster: the civic duty of any citizen in a representative democracy is to vote. period. you will never get to vote for the perfect avatar of all you hold dear. period. you will always have to choose the least bad option. period. while you continue vamping out with your cosplay politics, people are being fvcking murdered. get your head out of your ass.
Some people think this is an acceptable side effect of the (“capitalist”) economy. They should sacrifice themselves.
I would have voted in at least some of the races on my ballot. But the fact of the matter is my absentee ballot arrived so late (due to it being redirected to a new address) that the earliest I could have mailed it back was monday. It never would have arrived in time to be counted.
Mail ballots are counted as long as they're post marked by election day. They don't have to arrive by election day.
