Mocking UNC names for a team is about as relevant as suggesting a Miami club called Fighting Squid. No intent at all to add to the discussion just troll and make a joke at others expense.
Good article from Crown Town Soccer: http://crowntownsoccer.com/3-things-queen-city-needs-2016/ Interesting thing in the article is where the lacrosse and soccer team will belong to the same ownership group. This could be the the first time that the 'AC' acronym could be properly used. Think about it: AC Charlotte. Then the fans call them whatever they want as a nickname. AC, the Hounds, (like the lacrosse team) or something else entirely. Just do like most European teams and don't put it in the official name. No need to go for overkill and be AC Charlotte Hounds or AC Charlotte Royals or something. The simpler the better
Just trying to find out what's going on with this; this is what I've been able to find. Official purchase agreement submitted on July 18th. http://crowntownsoccer.com/purchase-agreement-submitted-league-office/ The team name will be decided in a name the team contest; details about the contest haven't been released yet. https://www.facebook.com/queencitysc/posts/1562106287349306 The Charlotte Historic Landmarks Commission had a meeting on May 28th to discuss widening the field with a follow up meeting scheduled for June 9th http://www.cmhpf.org/designreviewminutes0514.htm This seems to be a more in depth Q&A http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/cou...questions comments - answers 022312 (3).pdf Redesigned layout with the new field overlaid on the existing structure and what it should look like once completed. http://cmhpf.org/140527 - CHLM.pdf
I love the people who are convinced they're going to make a really old, under utilized stadium TOO SMALL by taking out some seats.
I would be surprised if the reasons that compelled the Eagles to consider selling their spot in the league are less urgent now than they were. Though business deals aren't done until they are done, I would have to imagine the Eagles would have little reason to back out.
I think we all know everyone's opinion on the Eagle's and their ministry. Let's try and keep this thread about the new team / organization. Thanks
A mid sized Modernized reno'd stadium would likely see ACC Championship action and NCAA as well. Mens Lacrosse held this year in PPL Park Philadelphia. Powers like Duke and NC participation would make it a natural location. Maryland and Virginia both were 4 of the 6 clubs participation this season. The smaller mid capacity soccer stadiums going up in many cities with pro sports a better alternative for some events then the larger gridiron football. Charlotte is one of the newer cities now that have multiple big time pro sports in NBA and NFL with new venues. An alternative to Wake Med in a different part of NC
Hard to see it replace WakeMed as an ACC title location. Cary will fight tooth and nail, as shown in recent renovations, to get NCAA and ACC events.
looks like Charlotte will be announcing the team name and details, including an MLS affiliate on Sept 17. Here is a quote from their Facebook event. "Queen City Soccer Club LLC, the new Charlotte USL Pro Soccer franchise ownership group, is planning a major announcement regarding the return of professional soccer to historic American Legion Memorial Stadium starting in the Spring of ’15. To celebrate this historic occasion, we invite you to toast the team with representatives of the new ownership group at a rally starting at 6:30pm at Courtyard Hooligans Pub on Wednesday, September 17. In addition to fun, camaraderie and cold beer, we will make key introductions, provide updates, announce the rebranded team’s new name and details around a fan contest to choose the newly named team’s logo, introduce our MLS affiliate and give information on how to secure tickets for the upcoming 2015 season. Don’t miss the fun." https://www.facebook.com/events/363918603760287/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular&fref=nf
Guess the deal is or will be done, then. And thus ends one of the longest-running professional teams in the country, one that lasted far longer than anyone would have believed.
Charleston, Richmond and Charlotte all first played in 1993. Des Moines first began play in 1994. The Battery, Kickers and Eagles weren't technically "pro" at the start, and the 1994 season was a hodgepodge of pro and amateur teams in USISL's one league. For all intents and purposes, the Battery and Kickers should be tied for longest continuously-operating professional outdoor club in this country. (The Milwaukee Wave has played indoors for every season since 1984 and Baltimore has had a team every season since 1980, but the Blast and Spirit/Blast aren't the same franchise.) (Des Moines also started in 1994, but isn't a professional club.)
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but there seem to be rumblings of calling the team... Charlotte Independence? We will find out officially on September 17th.
On April 12, 1776, North Carolina became the first state to instruct its delegates to vote for independence from Great Britain. "Charlotte Halifax Resolves" doesn't have the same ring. Independence it appears to be. So says USPTO (emphasis mine) CHARLOTTE INDEPENDENCE Goods and Services IC 016. US 002 005 022 023 029 037 038 050. Also, a James McPhilliamy registered charlotteindependence.com on June 23 of this year. James McPhilliamy is the president of the Charlotte Hounds lacrosse team.
(Cross-post) It's apparently "Charlotte Independence." They registered the URL June 23 and the trademark August 11.
I like it. I suspect they will have to do some work to establish themselves as THE Independence in Charlotte. Charlotte Independence High School had a football dynasty in recent years, but the team should be able to establish their own identity.
Sounds somewhat 90's MLS, but I support a team for NC. I liked the old USISL team Raleigh "Flyers", myself. Otherwise, Carolina FC or FC Carolina.
Charlotte is certainly a good potential site for an MLS club. one of the newer cities in the US to take on pro sports on the high levels of NFL and NBA and NHL to the west of Charlotte in Raleigh. and is along the atlantic coast in the south below the Mid Atlantic region with the DC/Baltimore region which is furthest south. Filling the gap between Atlanta and at least one Florida franchise
There is definitely a lot of potential in Charlotte -- it is a very fast growing area with an influx of people coming here from all over the country. MLB is not going to be on the radar for at least another couple of decades, so there is a window of opportunity for soccer to gain a foothold over the next 5-10 years. The Carolinas are going to eventually get a MLS team -- will it be Charlotte or Raleigh that wins the prize?
Charlotte does will have a solid groundwork being laid for a future MSL club. New Ownership group is lead by MLL Lacrosse owner of the Charlotte Hounds. City owned American Legion Memorial Stadium with designs on more modern renovations as the home venue for both the Soccer and Lacrosse club. Lacrosse as well is also big in North Carolina. Seeing what Denver has done with the World Lacrosse Championships at Dick Sporting Goods place. Charlotte already would have other events possible for the city at the upgraded reno's at the venue. The Smaller capacity SSS venues have added great options to city metros to host a number of Soccer, Lacrosse, and Gridiron football events. Hounds owner also has connections to the NBA Franchise. A MLS club could likely get the backing of the NBA franchise or NFL franchise. As is the situation in SAC and MINN. Along with Atlanta and NYCFC already having the ownership backing of big time pro sports owners
