Consolidating his place at Southend. He only had 248 minutes with the first team this season, and they're not a big enough club to be loaning players out to lower leagues.
Goal of the Year: This is our @SkyBetLeagueOne Goal of the season 🏆17 years of age and on his first professional appearance, @CharlieKelman0 decided to have a go from the half-way line. What a strike and what a goal! 👏#EFLonQuest // #SUFC pic.twitter.com/K1vUktdu6X— Quest (@QuestTV) June 5, 2019

Is Kelman one to watch this season? Is the youngster going to force his way into the rotation at Southend?

i dont quite know what to make of charlie as a prospect. should he already be a lock starter in the 3rd tier if he really is something? 17 still, but will be 18 in a few months?

That's a good question and it's a hard thing to get a gauge on. Dele Alli was pretty much a locked in starter at 18 for MK Dons. He made 39 League One appearances and scored 16 goals, earning a move to Tottenham. Tammy Abraham played very little at 18 but at 19 was on loan with Bristol City, scoring 23 in 41 in the championship. That's top Premier League quality right there, but I don't know that any of us think Kelman is at that point. Let's look at more mid range guys: Dwight Gayle was in the 11th tier of football at age 18. At 21 he scored 57 goals in the 9th tier, and shot up from there. Che Adams was a bench player for Sheffield United at age 18, coming in 11 times that season and scoring one goal. He turned 19 in the summer before scoring 11 goals in 36 appearances (with 29 starts) and moved to Birmingham City shortly after. Harry Wilson, a Liverpool player, went on loan to Crewe at 18 and only made a handful of appearances. He was a regular starter at Derby last year at 21 years old and is at Bournemouth this year. The way I see it, these are the season grades I'd give Kelman if he stays healthy: A+: 30+ appearances with 15+ goals. Almost certainly classifies him as a PL prospect and he should make a relatively big money move. (3-7 Million) A:25+ appearances, 7+ goals. This would indicate potential to be a PL player and a Championship move or PL move and loan could be in the works next season. B: 25+ appearances, 10+ starts. At this point it would appear potential is there, but he would need more developing. C: 15+ appearances, <10 starts. Indicates progress from last year, and progress is good. D: 10-15 appearances: Basically holding from last year. Still plenty of time to have a breakout season but this one isn't it. Anything less is a dismal season. To be a top USA prospect he needs to break out at some point in the next 3 years and have an A season.
