Peretz48, thanks for starting this thread. Hopefully it will answer what many US soccer fans desperately want to know: Will CD be ready for the World Cup?

    Best of luck, Charlie.

His attitude was contagious for his teammates. If he makes it back watch out.

Whether he's apart of the 23 or not, he needs a ticket to to SA.

Excellent news. Hopefully he will travel with the team to S. Africa regardless of whether or not he's on the roster.

If Charlie Davies even gets back to 45 minute game fitness, we take him, that is an extremely valuable bench option, as well as a locker room rallying point of epic proportions.

    Imagine if he scores.....

There are a lot of difficult decisions to make, and a 45 minute-fit Davies would be one such difficult decision (obviously, a 90 minute, in-form Davies is a lock, an easy choice). The most obvious pro of that decision would be the locker room morale angle.

Yeah. Take him as a forwards coach or something.

He seems to have a great attitude.

well, the cd news does sound very positive....

i'd take a 45 minute davies, at the level of the davies at confed cup...

getting there is the key problem...

i'd include him in the camp in may, given progress continues...

at worse, he's the 4th forward...

as to deserving anything, slots are earned, and that should be the metric for davies .... meaning get healthy, and find a decent form...even if it's only a month of playing in mls

If he's already walking only 3 months after the crash, that's pretty miraculous. 5 months to run/get fit. Tough, but much more a possibility than what any of us thought 3 months ago.

    Great news.

But I'm wondering, how big of a milestone is this from a medical perspective.

Are there any doctors here who can say how long it will take from this stage (walking) to Charlie being able to jog?

Say he did come to play in the WC, would anybody be purposely targeting his leg for a cheapshot?

    Roy Keane retired years ago...

whether he's on the roster or not is the big question, but i think if charlie wants to travel with the team he travels with the team. no brainer.

I don't think we have to worry too much about him being "deliberately targeted." His is a feel good story and he's not exactly an international villain. Besides, who's gonna wreck their own world cup and maybe their international career to do that?

Besides, we're not playing Gattuso or De Rossi, so he's probably ok. ;)

Anyone who did, I think, would become the big media villain of the WC, every WC has one.

To be fair, neither one of those players are dirty. De Rossi basically lost his head for some reason, he's not like that really.

De Rossi isn't dirty, but Gattuso sure is. Though he isn't as bad as others like Nicky Hunt or a Rafael Marquez.
