http://charlestonbattery.com/news/b-sports-entertainment-purchases-battery/ http://www.postandcourier.com/artic...ry-soccer-team-sold-to-b-sports-entertainment So the Battery have a new ownership group and subsequently announced some stadium renovations. Seems like fairly large news considering the club has been around for nearly 25 years now and has been owned by the same group that whole time. Anyone have any more info on the new group?
B Sports Entertainment is headed up by Eric Bowman founder of SPARC software company. SPARC was sold to Booze Allen last year for a tidy sum. Bowman has been a season ticket holder for years and a sponsor the last couple as well. here is a good article http://www.postandcourier.com/artic...ry-soccer-team-sold-to-b-sports-entertainment I think most people are excited by the possibilities and very grateful to Tony for all he has done in the past 23 years. The video board they are talking about will be huge. 90 feet by 32 feet.
He's hitting the ground running, should be a fun year in the stands. Hope for more sellouts so maybe we can dream about expanding the stadium. I could be happy with 10k watching a Battery match. If the Stingrays can draw 10k (occasionally) we should be able to draw that too.
Congrats on the new ownership. They did a segment on in on the USL Radio podcast. Sounds like the new owner has been both a season ticket holder and a sponsor of the team. It also sounds like he making more then a few updates to the stadium.
I heard, there will be more concerts and other forms of entertainment happening at the stadium, besides soccer matches
I was just getting ready to post that photo. Interesting to see that big ass screen in proportion to the field. It looks low to the ground, I wonder if that's going to be the actual placement. It seems it would be a distraction to players running towards that goal to see this massive screen right behind the goal. However, if it is that low/a distraction, it could come in handy during a PK shootout. When the other team is preparing to shoot, have a 30 foot tall naked women pop up on the screen. I know I'd be up for that (no pun intended....well, maybe it was )
yeah I was thinking the same thing. I would think they might move it back closer to the fence. Im sure it will change some but its going to be exciting
It's been well over a decade since I've been to a Battery game, but I always liked the atmosphere and intimate feel of what I still out of habit refer to as Blackbaud. I hope the video screen doesn't detract from that. Everything else about this sounds unambiguously great for the club. I've got to make it down for a game one of these days.
its going to be huge and hard to miss that's for sure! that said I think it is going to be a good addition. if anything is going to add to the intimate feel by closing in the stadium on one end. One thing the Battery started a couple years ago is the Southern Grounds Fest at the stadium (two days of music) I understand the video board will help bring more concerts in during the off season which adds to the clubs income. I think this is the year for some needed infrastructure upgrades and in the next season or two, I wouldn't be surprised to see some more money in the budget for players...
well this sure turned into a bit of a spat: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/usl-issues-statement-over-charleston-press-controversy-46736/
Saturday night, only 1 of 4 concession windows were open on the east side, the 1 window that was open had a massive line. I'm sure a lot of fans just turned around and said F it. Leaving money on the table me thinks.
Bad PR and a mis-step for sure, they should know better than to make an amateur mistake like they did with the Post and Courier.
