    yikes.

I also happened to enjoy humming the Darth Vader/Empire theme (since we are the evil empire to most) - even though it is overused in America, I'm not so sure it is overused in soccer.

I know a lot of people hate this song (myself included), but when they played Sweet Caroline over the loudspeaker in Ottawa, pretty much everyone joined in.

    Something like

    "America"

    oh oh oh (or U!S!A!)

we're gonna win because we are

    So good
    So good
    So good

Don't forget to learn the chorus to this. It's easy.

One group sings the bracket part, we all sing the last line.

Sing a song (sing a song)
    for Oguchi Onyewu (Onyewu)
He's so strong (He's so strong)
    He just might kill you.

And there is no excuse not to do When Johnny Comes Marching Home

Going forward, this should be our song at national team games. It worked well in Canada for the U20s and in Germany, as you can see.

We'll be chanting this at Stout on Sunday.

HF-I don't recall whether or not any video is to be had regarding that song. I know that we did it a couple of times every game we were there in Montreal and Ottawa.

It's an easy song that could be easily picked up at any game or any bar. Shouldn't be a hard one to learn.

At the US v China game this guy came to the front row of the SA section and got a few of us to sing "Country roads take me home" by John Denver. It was fun to sing and a modern American classic. We played around with and sang the chorus progressively faster. It's a good, very American song that, at least the chorus, is easy to remember and sing.

that dude was SSooooo piss drunk.. best thing that involved him was when he tried to put his arm around the shoulder of the security lady and she totally dissed him with one look of pure anger.

"country roads" though??? it didn't work.

you know what else didn't work? the racism that was spewing out of Sam's Army towards the chinese athletes. i was fugging disgraced by it.. and in the bay area no less. i will never sit with sam's army again because of it.

the entire game there were various (and continuous) chants of:

    "Stick to Ping Pong"
    "Wang, Wang, Wang, Wang"
    "Long Duck Dong"
    some nonsense about chinese food
    plus many others...

don't think they are racist? imagine playing mexico and chanting things like "chimichanga" and "stick to farming".. you would get your ass kicked.

i don't really have a problem with "Free Tibet", but it really isn't very imaginative and it was chanted over and over again. i bought tickets for my girlfriend and her entire family and all of us were really bummed on the comments and chants. really lame experience for her young nieces to be surrounded by racism.

I heard the Chinese food chant and yes it was dull, but stick to ping pong was brilliant! it would be like going to a US game in Europe and the opposing fans chanting "stick to baseball!" The Chinese take ping pong very seriously:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Liqin

As for the other chants while I didn't hear them I agree that they sound inappropriate.

That one is funny. In turn, when we played Caribbean teams during the 2002 WC cycle, the chant "stick to cricket" has been used.

The rest are lame however, and sound as if the people who started it have zero game with respect to chants/songs. Pazzmore, this is the USA, after all. Did you expect any less from some dummies? I get what you're saying.

You also forgot the Chinese love Snooker (a form of English billiards):

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ding_Junhui

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snooker

... so "Stick to Snooker" is also a good one, too.

    ----------

On a random note, if we ever manage to beat England, as the game ends, everyone should start singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

    hehehe...

We need to borrow a song from our neighbors from across the pond and reclaim it from one of our famous American Movies, the Great Escape!

    Duh Duh DUh-Duhhhhhhh
    Duh Duh-DUh-Duhhhhhhh
    Duh-Duh DUh Duh Duh-Duh-Duh Duh-Duhhhhhhh

    Duh Duh DUh-Duhhhhhhh
    Duh Duh-DUh-Duhhhhhhh
    Duh-Duh DUh Duh Duh-Duh-Duh Duh-Duhhhhhhh
    U-S-A!

    Repeat
