Well, I kinda think this sucks. I went from being "a name known to all" to having one little green block and being on a distinguished road again. There was some rep I was proud of, from people important to me. This system kind of screws people who don't post all that much but post good stuff when they do. I think this needed to be a gradual shift... like... keep things for 100 days at first and have those gradually drop off... not like this. This was so sudden, and I lost almost everything. I really don't understand the point. I mean, it was annoying before, when I couldn't rep people who deserved it for two posts in completely unrelated forums. Personally, I think the limits should be taken off (if they haven't). Frankly, I was getting annoyed with those "You must spread some reputation around..." posts.
Re: yeah I did but somehow missed the point. So from now on it 60-90 and just this first cut was off. Got it.
Re: yeah Point of Order: In US Soccer terms, 60-90 days is equal to "Any indefinite time frame long enough that you may forget when I said this." Usage: "The Metrostars will announce a stadium development in 60-90 days." IMO, this makes 60-90 days the PERFECT time frame for all BigSoccer decisions.
I like this the new system. Now we'll be able to find out who are the really good posters instead of the popular ones. Good work Huss.
This was probably going to be done eventually no matter what. As people are generally more supportive than destructive and with a number of people who on a consistent basis contribute well at some point you were going to have a bunch of people who reach a rep ceiling so to speak. While I don't like the fact that historically poor posters get a pass now, at very least they'll have an opportunity at rep redemption for whatever that's worth.
Er, no. For the most part, the most nipples will go to the popular users who post a ton (i.e. the community threaders), and not as much for the popular users who dont post as much. So nothing's really changed. Also, for the referee forum argument; any user whos been on a particular forum in BS long enough to know what nipples represent has been on long enough to know who the good/bad posters are in that forum.
I've often thought that a good way to prevent people's rep from getting too high is just reduce the number of points each repping is worth. I'd prefer that to a system in which it expires in just a couple of months.
Not that I really care, but I don't see how it changes anything, as the rep system hasn't been aroudn for much more than 60-90 days IIRC. BTW, is rep given by any poster now equal, because that's how it seems on my "My BigSoccer" screen? Which would suck, because two of the dozens of respected BigSoccer posters who have given me positive rep would then have their voices cancelled out by verybdog and Metrogo.
I...I'm sorry sweetheart....this never happened to me before. It's not you, really, it's me. Tough day at work, lots of stress. Maybe some Viagra.
Oh, i was lead to believe that this new system would eliminate someone trying to get a lot of rep points at a specific point at time and make it look like he's a great poster unlike someone else who has collected the points on a steady basis for a long period of time.
If I may say so, I think that a quick look at the members list, sorted by reputation, should show why this move was a bit dumb. Under the old system, you generally had BigSoccer's best posters and most consistent contributors up at the top of the list. Now, you've got some of those same posters behind some real asshats who might've in the past month written their one bon mot for the year. Of course, an astute observer will probably note that I am including myself in that list of "best posters," but honestly, I don't really give a rip who I'm behind. After all, I'm a moderator and I don't really give two craps what other posters think of me in the forums that I moderate, since in the end, I've got the hammer. I can understand why this change was made, but I don't think that it's going to work out quite as well as you'd like with such a short expiry date. The thing to do is to reduce the amount that other posters can affect your rep and to pick a much longer life for rep (like six months). That way, the cream will more visably rise to the top, while you don't have posters with the ungodly amounts of rep that you saw before the change.
