Of course, there was a recent story where a drafted XFL player saw the actual salary and then decided to wave good-bye to the league.
Incredibly the Seattle Dragons and DC Defenders game is on ABC. Actually, it seems like league games are on ABC, FS1 and ESPN2.
Pablo Maurer just wrote the best article I have read this year --- https://theathletic.com/1329029/2019/10/28/wayne-rooney-dc-united-legacy-derby-county-mls/ Pay up guys, talent isn't cheap.
Wayne came here, did some things, enjoyed time with teammates (Jalen Robinson has a great line comparing him to Ibra; subtly throwing Zlatan some shade while saying Rooney's cool). The wife is mentioned, as is the press and the tabloids. Drinks are had. It's not really a news story, more a personality story. You're left mostly liking Mr. Rooney.
Pablo is now reporting Lucho is definitely gone from DCU. Should have an "exit interview" with him on The Athletic shortly.
No surprise. He wasn't worth nearly what he could have signed for at this time last year. We really dodged a bullet there.
Acosta had moments of brilliance and he may yet shine somewhere. You don't go from Neymar's replacement to garbage overnight. But his time here is done, no matter who the coach is. I'll thank him for his contributions and wish him well.
How is losing him on a free transfer a good thing in any way, shape, or form for United? He contributed almost nothing the last three months. Could have been sold for a ham sandwich and at least fed an intern for the day.
Players leave on a free all the time. How many suitors do you think DCU had after PSG when any team out there could get him on a free (or a pre-contract after July 1)? His form this season certainly would not have caused any teams to grab him until the season was done. Let's see where he winds up. I would guess Greece, Belgium or Serie B, Ligue 2 or the like. He's not going to the big time after this season.
It must have been hard to imagine that he would be dead weight for playoff position push. Ben must have reasonably felt he would find his form again. But he didn't. He appeared to have checked out mentally, so let's just be glad that DCU didn't sign him to the very expensive contract that he apparently turned down.
A summary with some details and quotes: Rooney calls for MLS change: U.S. players 'taken advantage of' with low salaries https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/roo...-taken-advantage-of/tczh6c62s01w1bfhknlj7buyb
He has to agree to be sold for that sandwich though. Can’t blame the guy for not wanting to go to Saudi Arabia
Jalen Robinson is also gone: Wow and just like that year 6 is finished and unfortunately, so is my time at DC! Thank you to the coaches, my teammates, the medical staff, and everyone else that helped me grow along the way! Best of luck to… https://t.co/1pBIavZLtX— Jalen Robinson (@JayyBird15) October 29, 2019
LOL you keep thinking that. Never was. It was a third-party transfer that PSG didn't know anything about until Kasper & Co. showed up on their doorstep with hats in hand. Thx, Jay!
My sit-down w/@LuchoAcosta94, who says he’s leaving #DCU for good. We talked about the good, bad & ugly & what went wrong in ‘19. I asked him about his coach & who’s to blame for PSG. And he had a message for #DCU ’s front office, too: https://t.co/mhO6IjwCa9… @TheAthleticSCCR pic.twitter.com/TqeWPq9vyT— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) October 29, 2019 Another very well done piece. Ben calling this season a good season with a bad ending is loser talk and exactly why he needs to go.
Bummer, I liked him and thought he was progressing pretty well. Nice to have on your bench and in your practices.
Sure he was a deck chair - everyone needs an option to sit while on deck. Not sure why you want everyone standing around up there You need a good assortment of deck chairs in MLS.
