DeAndre set to start. Game will be on TV (beIN sports).

Newcastle need a win to take the lead back from Brighton.

    Villa looks like a 4-2-3-1:

Villa comes with seven losses and two wins in their last nine games. They start the game at #17.

    Same. ;)

Villa attacking mostly on Newcastle's left. Yedlin mostly involved in attack at this point.

    ----

Villa with the first chance of the game, ball floated from their left side. Yedlin not to blame.

    ----

Villa with a corner, completely wasted. Rafa looks annoyed.

    ----

DY double-teamed, managed to elude his markers in a nice move but his pass was a turnover.

Comments about AV spending a lot of money to try to get back to the Premiership, but sinking close to the relegation line instead. 60m pounds in the summer, 23m in Jan., and all for nought.

Yedlin tries to come out on the right but launches the ball too far ahead and loses it.

    ----

Villa the hungrier side, they just lack the quality to turn their advances into chances.

    ----

Villa playing full English style: hoof from defense to the running wingers who send a cross to no one. Newcastle tries to come out playing but loses the ball barely past the midfield.

    Mildly entertaining so far.

    ----

Yedlin got an arm (Lansbury) to the nose, getting treatment for bleeding.

Panama U20 has better finishers than this Villa though.

Newcastle finding it hard to engineer an attack, finally got something going on their left.

    ----

Yedlin always has two men on him, he's been neutralized.

    ----

Darlow with the hero save. Third corner for Villa, wasted.

Mitrovic x Gayle in Newcastle, because of injury.

    ----

Our guy solid in defense there, marking the Villa winger like a bulldog.

The Newcastle midfield stinks today. Every other touch is a turnover.

    ----

First corner for Newcastle after Yedlin tries to send a cross.

    GOAL! Gouffran.

    ----

Ugly, ugly goal after several rebounds in the area. NUFC 1-0 Villa.

    ----

Villa did the hard work, but didn't manage a shot on goal. Newcastle scored on their one chance. Yedlin did fine this first half, one of the most dangerous players on the field and marked accordingly.

That was a result of Yedlin trying to make something happen down the wing.

All season a big problem has been that outside of Ritchie & Yedlin combining along with Shelvey pinging balls all over the place, they can't create much going forward. It would help immensely if Gouff and Dummett could produce something from the left, but they usually can't.

Yes, before getting that corner Yedlin got two throw-ins on that side, the two guys marking him kept bouncing the ball out. Shelvey & Ritchie have been very poor, which is a shame since they're the guys supposed to help relieve the pressure on Yedlin when he goes forward.

Newcastle opens their account through Yedlin's doppelganger Gouffran. They scored off a corner. Yedlin drew the corner by continually trying to get to the end line and serve a cross in. Good work rate, and fundamental idea, but he was super predictable (and could use a sharper first touch to get those crosses off clean, as they perpetually got blocked). Ultimately the effort paid off enough directly and then handsomely indirectly. Worked a little one two on the short corner to the guy who served in a good ball which created havoc.

Just made a very nice dribbling run where he megged his defender and got to the edge of the box, but was confused what to do then, and just panicked and played an ineffectual ball into the middle of the box that was cleared out. So like you see him do a lot.

But his general work rate and aggression is helping put Newcastle on the front foot. Nothing special, but good basic b---- stuff like Naomi Watts. She doesn't excite anyone, but her movies get good bang for their buck.

Commentators remark Villa has not turned a game they were losing at the half in their favor in over 3.5 years.

    ----

Yedlin applies his Turbo speed to cut a possible Villa counter after a failed FK, and gets fouled.

    ----

Yedlin's first touch is Zardesque at times.

    ----

It's amazing how a team valued at over 100m pounds can be as miserably bad as Aston Villa.

Shelvey, the guy who looks like a sad buzzard, has a decent FK and NUFC nearly scored their second.

And from the corner, an own goal. 2-0.

    ----

Lansbury, the guy who hit Yedlin in the face to produce the bleeding, credited with the own goal.

    ----

Newcastle fast attack on the left ends in a Villa handball that the compassionate ref waves away.

I swear I've seen teams with 1% of the Villa budget play better. Bjarnason lost a chance to make it 2-1 alone versus the keeper, because he couldn't turn fast enough.

    Thanks, Madvillain. :)

    ----

Yedlin is so fast, he's often seen centrally on defense, to take the ball from an incoming attacker before he gets to the CBs.

    ----

Now this is a pain to watch. Newcastle happy with the 2-0 and Villa needs other 900 minutes to score.

Yes, thanks for the Yedlin-centric commentary. I cancelled my subscription to FuboTV a month ago and now they start showing games I really want to see.

As the other players tire, Yedlin speed seems unreal: he was part of an attack and seemed to get fouled in the area, retreated to cover in the center, next second he's wide on the left. the guy is running at twice the speed of everybody else.

    ----

I feel bad for Villa. Their one goal-scoring guy, Hogan, just blew his ankle, landing badly after a jump. That's the end of the season for him.

    ----

Dwight Gayle, the Newcastle player subbed out early today, also the brains of their attack, is likely to be out for the rest of the season too. He's had hamstring issues and this time it looks like he did his hamstring in for good.

Newcastle is a bit of a one trick pony right now, they are going to go down the right. If they can't they try to forfeit anyway. Defense overloaded on that side all game long. DY had a decent game couple good moves lost the ball a couple times and generally seemed out of sync with Ritchie, whom he usually has good chemistry with.
