We all know the 2 to avoid. Next in line to hopefully avoid is Shakhtar. If we draw any of the other 3 then it has been a good draw for us.
Lionel Messi: Has never scored in 8 appearances against Chelsea -- It's his worst record against a team in his career
DI FRANCESCO | "Shakhtar are a top side, who managed to qualify from a very tough group. We fought to earn the right to be in the last-16 draw, and we will do everything we can to continue our adventure!" #ASRoma #UCL https://t.co/4Ubt4N2PQ8— AS Roma English (@ASRomaEN) December 11, 2017
You guys should win against Shakthar, we fcuked up the first game in Ukraine but then comofrtably beat them at home
They're still a tough side at home. I trust this Roma side to at least turn up now without mental breakdowns so I think we'll have to much for them over 2 legs.
I mean, way better than some of the alternatives. We at least have a legit shot to make it through to the next round.
Still pretty salty after they knocked us out 6 or 7 years ago. That was almost as embarrassing as the Man U loss.

The way we played was pathetic. Losing 6-2 on aggregate against a team we absolutely should have advanced past. It was a typical Roma implosion.
Last time we got Shaktar in the Round of 16 is when we last won our CL group, which again contained Chelsea. I just hope the final aggregate score will not be the same.
You've played well enough at home, Menez was ripping us apart some moments (and yeah, you were terrible in Donetsk). But let's not be fooled, it was competely expected. You had troubles with your game, your president and stuff. And we were top european side. Napoli claims that they are playing some "beatiful football". Well, Shakhtar circa 2011 was at least twice better than current day Napoli, also playing "beatiful football" way before they selfbranded it now. Ukrainian league was strong, we had all the tings a powerhouse should have, a team of young technically gifted boys with great chemistry. You know all the names, Douglas Costa, Rakitskiy, Jadson, Luiz Adriano, Willian, Fernandinho, Mkhitaryan, Chygrynskiy, Pyatov, Srna, Eduardo, Alex Teixeira etc. We were better side back then while you had not the best time. It was a natural order of things that we won. Now, I think current Roma is stronger and Shakhtar is definitely weaker. Moreover, we didn't buy good players these days, we lost our home due to war and our B side now our A side and we have no bench. So I consider you strong favourites and now you probably should feel embarrased if you don't win us, but underrating us is the stupidest thing people ever do, don't fall for that.
Losing 6-2 on aggregate was definitely not expected. Not taking anything away from Shakhtar, losing to you wasn't even the embarrassing part. It was the way we played. It didn't even look like Roma tried, especially in the 3-0 game.
From memory there was a sour atmosphere around game time with the team and a feeling of impending doom as the match went on.
Actually it was in the CHL season of 10/11 when we played Shakhtar, Ranieri coached in the first leg and Montella in the 2nd one of that tie. And we came 2nd in the group to Bayern Munich that season. Shakhtar were very talented back then, we had a good team that season but some players wanted Ranieri gone. Just for the old times...
