It beggars belief as to how stupid some people can be. The proposed reformat is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard of.
right on. madness, pure madness. the game is run by idiots, if this is the kind of idea they think makes any sense.
The whole proposal sounds odd. I suspect a few clubs will have been sounded out but ... Didn’t we have and then ditched the 2-group stages nonsense before? And, semi-finalists qualify to the group stages?
Someone in the panel hit it right away - the Italian teams are looking for more money and trying to lock in spots for the CL year on year.
Yeah, Juventus—not always exclusively, mind— seems to feature quite frequently in these types of initiatives.
Facts, it's the only way we can compete after the Premier League's massive television deal... A club like Everton can outspend every Serie A team if they wanted to
Don't worry, they'll still lose to whoever you put up against them. Once upon a time, the Serie A was the destination league to play in. Might need to fix your own house before you go raiding others. The whole proposal is ludicrous but I understand why Juve and the like would want it. They need to be contracting these tournaments, not expanding them. Watering down the competition will only hurt them in the long-term. No non-knockout only tournament should have more than 32 teams. In fact, most should only have 16-24.
That is not really true. Both Everton's gross spend and net spend is less than 5 Italian clubs and at least 4 of those have a higher wage bill than Everton. Everton look like big spenders right now due to a new owner taking over a club he wants to turn into a European regular competing for the top four. Previously their wage bill and squad reflected a team that's primary ambition was maintaining a premier league place. As the quality of their squad increases we will see a slow down on their spending as their increased wage structure will stop them from casually spending without high-profile exits.
Groups F, G, and H all are groups where various permutations of those who qualify are likely to happen. The first five groups all have two prohibitive favorites to advance. I like the idea of playing Salzburg - we can scout their next superstar and buy them before RBL does.
Official CL Squad: List A: Alisson, Elliott, Firmino, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Keita, Lallana, Lonergan, Lovren, Mane, Matip, Milner, Origi, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Robertson, Adrian, Shaqiri, Fabinho, Van den Berg, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum. List B: Alexander-Arnold, Brewster, Jones, Kane, Kelleher, Larouci, Lewis. List B includes players born on or after January 1, 1998 who have been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday. UEFA rules state a club can register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season but the list must be submitted by no later than midnight CET the day before a match.
When you compare the net spend of the Premier League to any other league it isn't even close. Premier League: €3,427,530,000 Serie A: €1,398,890,000 La Liga: €1,335,380,000 Ligue 1: €687,410,000 Bundesliga: €312,090,000 Like I said, not even close. The Premier League's net spend exceeds the next 3 highest spending leagues. And only falls short of €300mil from exceeding the 4 highest leagues.

I'll give you a hint - it's about a certain 6 time UCL winning team from the northwest of England. You are welcome! (EDIT - there's a bit too much about Spurs for my liking - but that's what skip is for).

We should fear no team. Ideally: whoever of Donetsk/Zagreb/Atalanta 2nd choice: Lyon Romantic choice: Real Madrid, so we can curb stomp them. Potential Banana Peels: Atletico Madrid or Dortmund (but still not really)
we do for the round of 16 for sure. Last season I think for Bayern and Porto we were away in the 2nd leg both rounds. The Bayern game is the one to consider of course where we put on a show.
exactly, Liverpool won the last season title when they applied this thought in every single match.. so they succeed to beat all team at home and away
Also, this CL season one of two things will happen... 1) Klopp loses his first European 2-legged tie since taking over here or 2) we're going back to the final.
So the final 16 teams are: Pot A Barcelona Bayern Munich Juventus Liverpool Manchester City PSG RB Leipzig Valencia Pot B Napoli Real Madrid Tottenham Dortmund Lyon Chelsea Atalanta Atletico Madrid We can't be drawn against Napoli Spurs or Chelsea so possibles are: RM -- Dortmund -- Lyon -- Atalanta -- Atleti I'll take Atalanta for a Quarter Final spot, please, Alex.
I would like either Atalanta or Lyon. The other 3 would all be tough. They will all be praying not to draw Liverpool.
