The Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC or CACGs) are a multi-sport regional championship event, held quadrennial (once every four years), typically in the middle (even) year between Summer Olympics. The Games are for countries in Central America, the Caribbean, as well as for Bermuda, Mexico, and the South American countries of Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Women's Tournament. July 19 - 30, 2018 in Colombia. GROUP A: Colombia, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Venezuela GROUP B: Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti, Nicaragua
Can't believe the Reggae Girlz lost (I'm also enjoying the effect Hue Menzies' accent may have on Blissett's mind.) WinSports' Twitter feed in Colombia is covering this whole CAC Games in great detail, including the opening ceremony. The teams are participating with their senior teams and best players : Castellanos (Venezuela), Villalobos (CR) , Usme (COL), etc. Very important tournament for the Concacaf nations to warm up engines before the world cup qualifiers in USA. Venezuela suffered to beat Jamaica despite having better players. Sometimes I think it's due to the lack of a good tecnical director who can take advantage of the potencial of the vinotinto girls . On the other side , Costa Rica proved to be a solid and competitive team
Despite the placements in the most recent Copa America Femenina, I think Colombia is definitely the #2 team in South America behind Brazil, though ARG, CHI, and maybe VEN are close behind. On the other side of the pitch, Costa Rica has also shown in the recent past that they shouldn't be underestimated, and probably can stake a claim to the #3 team in North America after USA and Canada after finishing ahead of Mexico in 2015 WWCQ, the 2015 WWC itself, 2016 OGQ, and recent H2H friendlies. So unsurprising to me that they produced a good match. I hope that - and would not be surprised if - the two meet again in the final! For the other match, I'm not surprised at all that Jamaica lost to Venezuela. As I said earlier, I think VEN is somewhere #3-#5 in South America, and it's a tight ladder there, but Jamaica has never really shown to have any true strength. Yes, they're often near the top in CFU, but they struggle to stay at the top (T&T is usually better), and none of the CFU nations have ever had more than a fleeting glance at challenging for a top 4 spot in CONCACAF.
This is what he said: "We're competitors, we're athletes. Wewannawin. We'regoingdowntheretowin, we'renotgoingdowntheretojustshowup, inourgoodcolours"
Haiti denied visas into Colombia. Matches to be listed as 3-0 forfeits. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-...ombia-refuses-visas-to-our-grenadiers-es.html Departing for Colombia for the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games held in Barranquilla 10 players and 4 Haitian officials are stranded in the Dominican Republic for three days because of a visa problem that did not deliver the Colombian authorities.
oh man, that really sucks... I remember, I think it was only last year, that a women's team from some smaller country (maybe a Muslim-majority one) put in a big effort and rounded up the funds to come play a few games in the US... then were denied visas to come. Bureaucracy is just the worst.

@sbahnhof thanks for the video links! Very useful. I would say that Jamaica had some bad luck though. Jamaica NT lost its first-choice goalkeeper, Snyder, just before they left Jamaica. Enter substitute Chambers: a) had a howler against a Venezuelan free-kick, b) as indicated by the article linked on the prior post, she left her squad with 10 players vs Costa Rica, forcing the top striker to take her place on goal. Gotta say that Group A first-day matches were brutal, played around midday under the hot Barranquilla sun (37-38C / 97-100F weather). All women matches are played on artificial surface: Estadio Moderno Julio Torres. The men's tournament is played on "FIFA-specified Bermuda 419" natural grass: Estadio Romelio Martinez. Some things do not change. Looking forward to next Monday's matches.
Yesterday Group B Trinidad & Tobago 2 - Nicaragua 2 Trinidad & Tobago get the automatic 3-0 win vs. Haiti on Tuesday. In order for T&T to advance, Nicaragua has to lose vs. Mexico by at least 4 goals.
TODAY GROUP A Costa Rica 2 - Venezuela 1 Jamaica 2 - Colombia 1 STANDINGS 1. Costa Rica 3-0-0 [9pts] 2. Venezuela 1-0-2 [3pts] 3. Jamaica 1-0-2 [3pts] 4. Colombia 1-0-2 [3pts] *Venezuela advances based on greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned. Goal differential was tied at [-1] for Venezuela, Colombia & Jamaica. Venezuela scored 5 goals total while Jamaica & Colombia scored 4 goals.
hot damn @_@ Jamaica over Colombia is a noticeable upset... And Venezuela thus gets the better of both of them!
It's sad, however, in a way. Colombia's fans, in 2015, showed up big time in Canada. I don't know if they'd have made it to France, but they're crazy good fans.

And there you go, now the host is out of semifinals. Big fail for Colombian organizers: COL-CRC-JAM-VEN in group A, and HAI-NCA-MEX-TRI in group B. Could have easily assigned CRC or VEN into group B, to spread out group contenders. Big ups for JAM and its 3rd-choice goalkeeper vs Colombia. VEN was very lucky that a CRC goal was incorrectly flagged for offside (minute 65), that would have been 3-1 to CRC. CRC-VEN, full-match (incorrect offside call against CRC goal, 10h2m45s)
TODAY Mexico 4 - Nicaragua 0 STANDINGS 1. Mexico 3-0-0 [9pts] 2. Trinidad & Tobago 1-1-1 [4pts] 3. Nicaragua 1-1-1 [4pts] 4. Haiti 0-0-3 [0pts] Trinidad & Tobago advances based on greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned. Goal differential was tied at [-1], but Trinidad & Tobago scored 6 goals, while Nicaragua scored 5. SEMIFINALS July 27 Costa Rica vs. Trinidad & Tobago Mexico vs. Venezuela
The semis might be live online on Friday - there are a few streaming channels for the Games on Win Sports - https://www.youtube.com/user/winsportstv/ Tele Caribe - https://www.youtube.com/user/TeleCaribeColombia/ Semi-finals - Fri 27 July Kickoff times (Colombia/GMT) Mexico v Venezuela (16:00 COT, 21:00 GMT) Costa Rica v Trinidad & Tobago (19:00 COT, 00:00 GMT) (Source - barranquilla2018.com) Perhaps the earlier MEX-VEN is more likely to be chosen for live coverage?
