Cementeros 2016

We don't have a lot of posters on here but we should still try to stay current. Good place to vent for us Cruz Azulinos.

 

Hey last season they were so bad that they weren't even generating any chances so there's improvement.

 

Nine weeks in so how about a report card. We should now be in mid-season form according to the MLSers so it's a good time to take stock on the team.

First, they lead the league in goals scored with 19 (yeah !)
Unfortunately they are 14th worse in goals allowed with 14 (boo)

Their 10 points at home is tied for second best with Pachuca but they are 11th when it comes to points on the road with 4.

They have 11 yellow cards (10th worst) and 3 reds (3rd worst behind Veracruz and America). So middle of the pack on yellows but doing poorly when it comes to reds.

The best thing about this team is that they are entertaining again. No doubt there are still things to work out but I had no big expectations for this Clausura. I figured Boy needed at least until next year to show something but I think Liguilla should be reachable. The Bueno era was the worst I've ever had to endure. Tomas Boy is not perfect but at least you can enjoy the games again. I'll even watch the Copa MX games.

 

You mean about the whole fascism thing ? First I think he was mainly referring to the arm salute and not the actual hymn itself though I'm just inferring that based on what I read. I don't think he was objecting to any of the words.

Also I don't buy that the blame for the early goal was the UNAM hymn.

Here's his quote -
"Lo que está mal es que mi equipo deba esperar 10 minutos para que ellos hagan un Himno que para mí es fascista."

So yeah, whatever. That's Boy for you. I'd much rather have that than a milquetoast manager that does nothing to motivate his team. If the team is winning it really doesn't bother me.

 

He should be back next game. While we're at it, I've always wondered why the MFL lets Pumas do their little sing-along skit before every game. Does that mean any team can go through a pre-match ritual if they want? Can the opposing team do something while Pumas chant ? Rather than just stand around and wait for Pumas to finish maybe Cruz Azul could have done a conga line or something around the Pumas players.

 

Which was Boy's complaint - that it delayed the game. I don't think it was quite 10 minutes but still it makes you wonder how much teams can get away with if they wanted to.

 

Of course not. The Pumas goal was just off of sloppy defending from Cruz Azul. Nothing to do with the UNAM anthem. Still it's funny to see how Boy takes his jabs at other teams. He does this on purpose. Did you see Hugo Sanchez' response? If Boy's intention was to get a rise from somebody, it certainly worked.

 

Wasn't that Vuoso ? Chaco got subbed out. By the way, that was an awesome goal from Chaco.
