There were various reports in December last year that Eritrea had been awarded hosting rights for the inaugural CECAFA Women's Championship, and it would be played in April 2011. However, there has been nothing in the news so far this year, and this competition has been announced on a number of occasions in the past, only to be cancelled later. Tanzania, Ethiopia and Sudan are involved in All-Africa Games qualifying at the end of April, but apart from those three, none of the other CECAFA members appears to have any schedule. It seems a shame that the tournament never seems to get off the ground. Teams that have in the past announced their intention to participate were Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Eritrea, Burundi, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Sudan. Djibouti and Somalia have not shown any interest, and I don't think Ethiopia would send a team to Eritrea due to political issues, but I think if they did, they'd be one of the favourites to win.
