Sorry joe, doesn't work like that. It goes to direct matchups for a tiebreaker, in which case Atlante's win and tie with Olimpia means they move on even if you have more point and greater GD, which you would only need to win +3 to do. But unfortunately CONCACAF is kinda behind the rest of the world in terms of administering rules.

Alright lets take this slow. They both have 8 points, that is a tie. Tie-breaking procedure is to look at the history between the two teams, the matches they played together. So we look at all the Atlante vs. Olimpia games, and since they are not playing next week, we know exactly that record. Its Atlante: 1 win and a tie. Olimia: 1 tie and a loss. Which is higher? Atlante. Tie broken. Atlante wins no matter what. No matter what happens next chance. Sorry, there is no way Olimpia can win. Atlante and Montreal move on no matter what, just depends in what order.

I don't make the rules, I just read them. I have no clue, personally I like GD as a tie-breaker as in much of the rest of the world. But welcome to CONCACAF, the joke of the world.

The head-to-head tiebreaker isn't that illogical. Why should the goal difference be used when that really is just a signifier of how well you can beat up on the last place?

Head to head truly shows who is better between the two teams.

Because two games don't really prove who's better. Seriously, all games should count not only two.

Goals are basically useless with this format. Score one and then sit back the whole game.

You're right, six games count. If, however, the teams are tied after that many, it's fair to think that head-to-head is a better gauge, not who blew out who or who kept it close.

To be fair the UEFA Champions League uses the exact same tiebreakers, though I also think goal differential would be a better tiebreaker.

    I know Morado. I know.

This has been a crappy tournament for Central American sides. Besides Marathon, all of them are out. I also don't see Firpo beating the Dynamo.

    Firpo only needs a draw.
12 of the 24 teams were from UNCAF and a third of the 24 make the quarterfinals. A third of the UNCAF teams would be 4, but UNCAF will only have 1 or 2 in the quarterfinals.

Does it make any difference that four UNCAF teams had to face each other in the perliminary rounds, thus making it only possible for 10 teams to qualify into the group stage?
