Just off the top of my head that is at least 10 players with Barca/La Masia ties, yet only one is actually with Barca. Surprised that zero are Barca B players but maybe it is a point of pride for the Catalonia NT that all but the 2 goalies (from Segunda clubs) are all first teamers in Liga level squads of which Catalonia is proud to have 3 at the moment (Girona is the 3rd; Eibar is actually in Basque country). Just saw Bootsy's comment, it is true there were more Barca players, but they also used to play their infrequent matches when there were not other international call ups (like around Xmas time) so then Alba, Roberto, and Busquets could be here too.
There are a few reasons why you don't see many in this squad. - The first reason (that you might be suggesting) is that the club don't rely much these days on Catalan/La Masia players as they did during the 'Pep era'. That was a special period/generation for the club which we may never see again. - Perhaps the primary reason (which @Gilmango beat me to) is that Catalunya usually play internationals during the Winter break when there's no FIFA calendar in play. Alba, Busquets and Sergi Roberto would surely be in the squad if they weren't selected to La Roja (Spain) who have priority on players ahead of the autonomous regions' national teams. - And I'm sure a few from the 'Pep era' like Cesc are still willing to represent the region but are unable to get their club's permission, especially now with the business end of the season approaching. More players are readily available and likely to be released by their clubs during the winter break and not towards the end of the season.
Barca B midfielder Riqui Puig has been added to the squad which now consists of 21 players. Coach Gerard Lopez says his intention is to have every player play at least 45 minutes. Still room for one more player, I'm guessing.
Xavi Hernández, currently of Al Sadd and FC Barcelona legend, has been ruled out of Catalunya's match against Venezuela at the last moment. The midfield maestro was one of the biggest stars expected to be appear in the friendly match but unfortunately won't make an appearance. Xavi, who was expected to receive a tribute ahead of the match, has told Gerard Lopez that he's picked up a minor injury and can't risk missing a crucial league match against Al Duhail next weekend. His current side, Al Saad, are top of the table and lead Al Duhail by four points. If they claim victory at the weekend, it'll see them lift the Qatar League title for the first time in seven years. https://www.sport-english.com/en/ne...of-catalunyas-match-against-venezuela-7370996
Xavi's withdrawal reduced the squad to 20 players but coach Gerard Lopez has since added winger Pere Milla (Eibar) and 20 year old forward Javi Puado (Espanyol) to complete the list of 22 players.
Puado scored the winner in the 2-1 win , Bojan scored the first goal , Rosales scored the goal for Venezuela
