Maybe I'm just going crazy here, but I could've sworn Cassar has been coaching this team for more than 3 games...

Right, it sounds like Kreis really isn't thinking this through. Knee-jerk defensive response for his buddy.

The shade thrown at RSL and NYCFC in those comments is hilarious

I'm sure the coaching "fraternity" is pretty tight nit and any time a coach gets unceremoniously canned you're going to get responses like that. Especially when the coach getting canned is a former coworker and friend. I think if you asked Kreis to try and be objective, take the emotion out of it, look at the team's performance over the last season or two, he'd probably agree it was time to move on.

I wonder why their is so little talk of getting a top tier coach from the college ranks?

Dunny mentioned several college coaches during his list of potential coaches during On Frame.

That's literally his only interest in RSL. The NBA is all he cares about, and the closer to Madison Square Garden it is, the more he cares.

Spence and Monson are about the 2 biggest hacks in sports radio/journalism you will these days. Do yourself a favor, don't listen or read anything they put out on the air/interwebs/newspaper, your life will be much better off.

Apparently Dear Leader was going to be on KSL radio earlier today talking ManU, etc.

Did anyone subject themselves to that?

    I listened.

Have more respect for Cassar. He could have put it all on Dear Leader and others, especially on the Javi stuff, but he owned for the most part.

Spence and Gordon on the other hand...meh.

    Sour grapes. Big time.

Listening to them talk about RSL is about as informative as trying to listen to me expound on soccer tactics. Ridiculous.

I really hate it when someone says "if you only knew what I know."

Screw you. Spit it out. Don't be a douche.

Can we please stop with wanting to promote people with no coaching experience? I love guys like KB, Borchers, etc, but they have no coaching experience at all. I'd be more than excited if they wanted to sign on as an assistant for the Monarchs or something, but I'm not even sure I'd want them as a head coach for them. Let them get a few years experience first and go from there.

Cassar was an assistant for years, and look how it panned out. Trying to recreate Kreis is probably going to fail at least 9 times out of 10.

IIRC, we were all rather skeptical of Kreis working out, too. So, we already beat the odds once, no need to double down.

Or, the short version: I agree with you.

Thing is, though, no coach, no matter how pedigreed or experienced or successful, is going to come in with more than a 50% chance of success.

At least no coach RSL has a realistic chance of hiring.

If someone's been an assistant coach at the MLS level or higher, IMO, he should be considered, but I don't think those guys have a significantly greater chance of being successful.

I believe the Fire Kreis thread was created the day after he was hired.

it took Kreis roughly 3 season (09 was shitty until the end, tbh) for Kreis to figure it out. In today's MLS, I don't think you can expect a coach to be given that much time or to be able to climb the learning curve, honeslty.

Listen to On Frame. If you last past the first few lines without saying "******** you" or something along those lines then you're a better person than me*. Dunny with his "vocal minority" shit is so ********ing condescending. I can't stand this dude lately.

*This is quite a low bar

With Kreis's RSL teams, it was often different than what we've seen from the Cassar years. You actually could see things coming together but not quite gelling/clicking. We had many games where we played very well and then we really did get unlucky. And Kreis was pissed, not proud.

I think that might be the main difference between what Cassar was doing and what Kreis was doing. You could actually tell that Kreis was implementing a system, struggle or no struggle, on the field. With Cassar I don't think anyone could tell what it was he was trying to do with the team.

I'm an admitted novice to soccer and even I could tell that RSL under Cassar had zero offensive identity and the longer he stayed the less obvious it became, besides kick and run, what RSL was trying to do on offense.
