You're making it sound like it's Rugby.

That's what Bielsa is probably wanting to do with him on the national team.

Size isn't of importance when skill surpasses all, that's the beauty of futbol. Two examples are both Jermaine DeFoe and Aaron Lennon both play on Tottenham and are shorter than Villanueva. This is a team that is in midtable range and compete in the UEFA Cup.

Right, but they're en English. In other words, they've been playing there their whole life (seen as how they're English ;) ). I would even add Rooney who is very short, yet plays as though he's twice his size. I don't know if Defoe is shorter than Villanueva, though. Lennon definitely is. You neglect to add that speed is their main asset (specially in Lennon's case), which means he can at least surpass one or two challenges for the ball, before they get close to him. In Villanueva's case, his speed is definitely not his main strength: due to his touch, he would have defenders/markers all over him before he even got the ball. ;) As a sidenote, yes, Spurs are usually very competitive, however, this season they've been struggling (already out of the UEFA Cup plus fighting against relegation, pretty much).

I watch a lot of english football and yes...they would snap Villanueva...but it is by no means impossible...look at Solano.

I don't think size is a big issue... but a player with the characteristics of Villanueva would NOT be fit to play there. It'd be a waste.

    Italy or Spain for him.

You know which Chilean player I always thought was a perfect fit to play in the EPL? Jose Luis Sierra.

    Re: Carlos Villanueva

Thats what im saying, sure he "could" play in EPL, but, he would not fit in very well or fast. You have to be really strong (Rooney) or fast to fit well, Villanueva is neither. PLUS, EPL teams dont play that much with "playmakers".
Id rather see him in Spain, he would fit perfectly.

I don't see arguing based on the sole fact that they are English helps the argument. Speed and positioning on the other hand play a more critical factor. Case in point Demarcus Beasley, who is an American that plays on Manchester City as a winger.

You have to take into consideration that the EPL tends to offer a faster paced game.

    Re: Carlos Villanueva

I should've been more clear: I was getting at the fact that even if you don't/do have what it's necessary to succeed in the EPL, it takes some times to adjust to the league (more so that in any other league). I forgot to add to the argument (in Lennon's and Defoe's case, they obviously have not been forced to make an adjusment).

Villanueva is just not cut out for the EPL, imho. ;)

I'll pass judgement on Villanueva and the EPL when I see how he performs on the same stage or against an English club team.

    Re: Carlos Villanueva

Fair enough, I wouldn't dismiss the EPL either, it's one of the three leagues that players most aspire to play in.

River...I would like to see him getting some stronger marking first...he can learn a few tricks from Argentina that will make him a much stronger player. Then Spain.

    Re: Where Should Villanueva Go

I believe Chile -----> Argentina ------> Spain would be a good evolution for him.

It would be a mistake to send him straight to Europe. He needs more physical work.. it'd take him a while to break the starting team of any squad in Europe.
