Knock on wood this this move gives roca the match fitness he really needs!

Still a lot of concerns between Ospina, Cuadrado and depth in the deep midfield

Most of the time I agree. I just like Ray Hudson and his crazy antics.

    Haha.

Either that or it was filmed in a very dark room.

Nice to see him paired up with his cousin in the midfield. That should help get acclimated quickly :)

Solid game from Sanchez today against Real Madrid.
Good positioning, good defensive timing, and even good passing.

The aforementioned Ray Hudson said he was the man of the match in his mind.

He looked good out there. His move to Espanyol happened at the right moment.

The good thing is that he in spain he should pass more often the ball, something good for his accuaracy that he was lacking in the last match with the NT

Would a Sanchez-Lerma MF work? Or two defensive? Sanchez playing much better for Esponyol then I have ever seen him for Colombia. Still want Lerma starting tho. I just don’t see Pekerman dropping Sanchez especially if he is finally playing

it would be interesting to test Lerma/Sanchez in the next friendly.

Let's assume for the sake of the argument that Roca Sanchez is going to start for sure - who would be the right person to pair up with Roca that can physically handle 3 group stage games in 10 days and then play up to 3-4 more games.

    1. Abel - his match fitness is a huge concern for me. Experience wise - he's at the top, but physically i don't know and wouldn't bet the house on him to handle multiple high pressure/physical games over a short period of time. What's his status at Cali? is he getting match fitness?

    2. Barrios - the Barrios-Roca combo was experimented with before and the feedback was not the best from us, but i think Barrios with a solid season at Boca and playing alongside Fabra/Cardona has helped him grow up a lot since the last few qualifiers he featured in.

    3. Dani Torres - a player that has featured in several high pressure games, but his club level appearances in Spain have been minimal. i see a scenario where Torres doesn't make the final 23 based on lack of match fitness.

    4. Mateus Uribe - i'm not sold on him to wear the crown of our B2B midfielder, but i think he would do great in a sub role first two games and see him start the third group game should we be in a good position to advance. Pekerman likes him and he does have a spark to his style of play that just has not been seen yet in a WCQ type game.

    5. Lerma - he needs to be tested in the MF role - bottom line. it's nice to know he can be a RB in a pinch, but he needs to be tested with either Roca or Barrios over the next few friendlies.

    6. GC brothers - is either GC a real likelihood of making the final 23?

in 2014 World Cup, Aguilar was subbed out of the 1st two group games, rested the third game; played against Uruguay and did not feature against Brazil. fast forward to today, i just don't think Aguilar is physically a stronger player now to handle a tough WC schedule.

there is going to be rotation / yellow cards / potential injuries so a player like Lerma needs to be tested with potential MF combinations. There's no single duo that's going to work for 3+4 games; so Pekerman/staff has to figure out which duos work best with each other.

Hell no, neither one of them are good in posession. If we were playing a team that we expect to dominate us then maybe, but even when we win the ball back neither of them have amazing passing range. There needs to be one destroyer, and neither have shown the ability to advance possession so it wouldn't work no imo.

stuff like that is so sad to see. He was only 31 and had a young daughter.

seems like he was well respected in Italy too, some high praise from people like Pirlo and Buffon on the type of guy he was.
