The Charleston Battery will host the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League side Village United in an international exhibition match on Saturday June 9 at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The Battery played Village United during its 2006 pre-season and defeated the Jamaican’s by a score of two goals to one. Charleston Battery head coach, Mike Anhaeuser, "We are excited to bring Village United back to Charleston to showcase more international soccer to the Lowcountry fans. Village provided a good test for us last year and we look forward to playing them again in June" Village United's roster will include Christopher Dawes and Theodore Whitmore who both represented Jamaica in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and have over 170 caps for Jamaica between them. Other Jamaican national team players include William Wilson-(midfield), Kirk Hendricks (central defender) and Jeff Pearce a current member of the Jamaican national team. In 2006 The Battery signed left-back Shane Crawford from United; this season the Battery brought in Jamaican national team striker Newton Sterling from Village for a pre season trial but released him back to United prior to the start of the season. Tickets for the Village United exhibition are only $10 general admission, 2007 season ticket holders can purchase their seats for $5, there will be no charge for children 14 years and under and no charge for parking.
