That bounds to happen, every league will have logos and team names people will dislike... like Real Salt Lake I like the name Cavalry, it fits Calgary perfectly, the logo...too simple but that's just me
If this Victoria #CanPL team happens the league will launch as the largest all-Canadian professional sports league of all-time (tied with @CFL). Surreal.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 18, 2018
I know it's my TFC game report but I've included a picture (at the bottom) of me at BMO Field in York 9 t-shirt. http://www.rocketrobinsoccerintoronto.com/reports18/18tfc018.htm

amigos from the north, i'm really excited about this new league hoping it helps increase the level in our region. Anywho, i noticed there's a countdown in the CanPL website to announce a new club today. looking forward to it!
This happened yesterday. This could be a major game changer in how soccer is consumed in Canada and how the Canadian Premier League might plan to bring their product to Canadians. I expect CPL to find a way to come to an agreement with them.

The intimate venue will feature 6,000+ seats and a world-class natural grass pitch. Ownership:The club is operated by Sports & Entertainment Atlantic, which is headed up by local sports business leader Derek Martin. Owners aren't disclosed. Name:The club’s name was inspired by the famous grounds at Halifax Common and the historic Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club. Established in 1882, this was the first athletic club to represent Halifax in sports competitions across the country. The club’s motto “Ar Cala, Ar Dachaigh, Ar N-Anam,” which means “Our Harbour, Our Home, Our Soul” in Gaelic, was inspired by the Halifax Harbour — the city’s welcoming gateway. The club’s official colours are “Aqua Ocean”, “Harbour Blue” and “Naval Grey” representing the sea and the region’s steel-toned skies, which come together like the Halifax community. I don't mind the name. Much better than calling themselves FC Halifax or AFC Wanderers. At least "HFX" is an abbreviation of the city they play in.
It is, but that's the nature of life in the north. The Scandinavian leagues run pretty much the same schedule.
The assumption is that Canada will be granted a second spot in the CCL and that one of those spots will go to the CPL champion while the other will remain with the winner of the Canadian Championship (in which the MLS teams participate). Nothing official has come from CONCACAF on this so far so, at present, it is just speculation from people who are enthusiastic about the CPL. That said, some of those people have been correct in other statements based on "behind the scenes" information, so we'll see.
Actually both Paul Beirne and David Clanachan have been saying it publicly during all the team presentation and in the media. It's no longer a behind the scenes thing. They are talking about it like its inevitable. We have to thank the performance of our Canadian clubs in CCL for that. Giving Canada a second berth is really a no brainer at this point. The CSA decides how the CCL berth are allocated and CPL champion is expected to get it That's just me but I think we deserve a CONCACAF League berth on top of it which would bring the total to 3 overall just like Costa Rica. I'd give the CL spot to the #2 team in CPL.
^ I'm not disagreeing with your reasoning. Beirne and Clanachan are understandably enthusiastic about the CPL and would love a guaranteed spot for the champion. I'd like to see that, too. I'm just saying that, until someone whose paycheques are signed by CONCACAF weighs in, it remains speculation.
The CSA said the same thing as they are the one who have to ask CONCACAF. Victor Montagliani, (Former CSA and one of the founders of CPL) is the current president of CONCACAF. CPL is "in his own words" his baby. Let's just say that I wouldn't be shocked if he granted the CSA a second Champions League berth. It's happening and the CSA will hand it over to CPL
It feels a little weird that a team and league in its first year of existence should be granted a CCL spot over the runner up of the Voyageur's Cup without actually having proven that they're, in fact, a better team.
The reason why Canada would get a second CCL spot is precisely because they created their own league.. It would be weird for the reason why they got a second CCL spot did not actually get a CCL spot, wouldn't it?
Until the actually blow the whistle on the first kickoff, it's a little hard to tell? But a CCL berth given by CONCACAF, presided over by a guy with a vested interest in the league, over a team that could conceivably win MLS but lose the Voyageur's Cup seems a little too business as usual for FIFA? Is this intended as the carrot and stick to bring Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver into CPL? Does CONCACAF do coefficients for CCL?
Not at all.. The reason why Canada only has 1 CCL spot is because it doesn't have a national professional league. If CPL kicks off and CONCACAF rewards Canada a second spot, then it only seems appropriate that the league gets the spot. While the winner of the CPL might not be the best team in the country, they are still champions of Canada's national professional league... Unless they take away the spot for the Canadian Championship, I don't see how it could be a carrot/stick for the MLS clubs.. Allegedly. But the 4 spots awarded to the US and Mexico are off limits.
Does Canada deserve two spots when no one in Central America gets more than one? I'm cool with Canada getting 2 CCL spots and 1 or 2 two CL spots, so long as the US gets stripped of one. I don't really see anywhere else the Canadian spot should come from. Assuming the same format, of course.
