A solid line up. Not really any surprises. Of the guys who are likely to start, Osorio and Layrea will have just played in the MLS Cup. It continues the recent trend of bringing in one CPL player.
Well that didn't turn out the way I wanted. What was with Herdman changing front and back lines? WTF? You'd think we had lost the previous game or something. 4-3 on agg is not bad but still a 4-1 beat down is going to make our WCQ harder.
On to the latest "Phonsie" watch. 1204877999771918336 is not a valid tweet id That is how you keep getting starts! You make your coach's eyes pop out with a great DEFENSIVE effort and play.
Canada vs. Iceland January 15 Canada Soccer's Men's National Team will face Iceland during January camp in California.#CANMNT SCHEDULE 🍁 https://t.co/WkP92VPigB pic.twitter.com/AGSgmaIRuu— Canada Soccer (@CanadaSoccerEN) December 30, 2019
Wonder what this means for the rumoured U-23 camp in Vancouver. I can't imagine the CSA would money to run two separate camps.
Iceland should be a good test. They are bunker and counter specialists. Let's see if we can break them down and score. Some very strong teams have fallen to them recently.
@Polygong Can you change the topic title to end "in 2019 and 2020," make it "2019 through 2022," or another ending you like? I don't think it's necessary to make a new topic for 2020, but I want the topic name to match what is in it.
Added 2020. I think it's good for one more year, then I think after that a ne wthread will be warranted.

https://www.fifa.com/news/2019-in-numbers says: "34 years had passed since Canada beat USA until Alphonso Davies and Lucas Cavallini secured them a 2-0 win in the Concacaf Nations League in October." Of the 15 things featured, the only ones by Concacaf teams or players are that one and USA Women. You were the only Concacaf Men's team mentioned. Josef Martinez's 15 consecutive MLS games with goals was mentioned, but he's Venezuelan.
It'll be interesting to see how we match up against Iceland. They're a country with a population smaller than Halifax that has seriously punched above their weight. We can learn something from them.

A 4-1 win where the other team's goal came from a penalty. A few good points aside from the obvious of getting another win: This extends our recent practice of actually performing as expected and winning easy games. We got a win with a decidedly B squad roster. That's a new thing for us. A bunch of youngsters got a chance to play. Almost everyone except the CPL players got at least some time on the field. Hopefully the few that missed out will get a chance on Friday.

A new friendly against T and T: https://canpl.ca/article/canmnt-to-play-trinidad-in-friendly-at-pacific-fcs-westhills-stadium Unlike the last games, this one is in a FIFA window.
^ It's not a bad idea to spread the NT games around the country. Especially for friendlies that aren't likely to grab huge crowds in the bigger cities anyway.
