I would like to see the two countries combine there spots so that if canadian teams can qualify though the mls . it would also mean that canadian teams playing in u.s. leagues would also be in the u.s. open cup .

they are combined. if there were 4 canadian teams in mls and they won supporter's shield, while the other two made the finals, then there would be 4 canadian teams in CCL if that 4th canadian team then won Nutrilife/Voyager's cup

Incorrect - the 4 "US" spots belong to the USSF, so if Canadian club wins the Supporter's Shield or the MLS Cup Final, the best US team in the regular-season table that hasn't already qualified for the CCL would claim the berth.

different nations should have their own spots, however i'd like to see a qualifying play-off between USA4 and CAN2.

how about the 2nd Panama vs Can 2 after Canada has at least 5 teams in MLS & NASL. Dont minimize spots for Mexico or for the US, they have the best stadiums to use for the competition. Honestly, they should bring back the Central American championship tournament and just invite the two finalist to CCL, like w/Caribbean cup
    4Mex
    4US
    2Central Amer
    2Caribbean
    1Canadian
    1Can/Cen Amer spot
2 invites to non-concacaf..whoever comes...j-league or colombian or ecuador, etc.

If you want to really improve the quality just make it

    9 Mex
    2 US
    2 C.A.
    1 CFU
    1 CAN
    1 S.A.

How bout we finally leave Concacaf and have Mexico dedicate their full teams to Libertadores.

    I say:

    Mex:5 (4+Previous Champ)
    US:4
    ect..

If you really want to improve quality, we should just put in 76 European teams.

    Oh wait ... they do.

speaking of European teams in CCL and improving quality, they should just reduce the whole tournament to 8 teams Concacaf and have it over just 4 weeks IN THE SUMMER....with 6 invites to visiting European teams who are in their pre-season. There would be no home and away, just play once all in US & some in Mex & some in Can.

    3 Mex
    2 US
    1 Can
    1 Central Amer
    1 Caribbean
    6 invites from Europe

2 groups of 7, top 4 advance to quarters

    group 1 example
    Galaxy
    Monterrey
    Montreal
    Saprissa
    Liverpool- invite
    Tottenham- invite
    Valencia- invite

    group2
    Houston
    PR Islanders
    Tigres
    Santos Laguna
    Sporting Lisbon
    AC Milan
    PSG

....hey, if Conmebol can invite 3 mexican teams, why not concacaf invite 6 european teams in their preseason

thats the problem w/CCL, the 3 Mex teams invited to Copa Lib. Thats too many, and the primary reason why CCL hasnt grown. CCL should be priority number 1 of FMF league. No more then 1 team from a certain league may be invited to non-regional tournament. That should be the rule. If Copa lib wants to invite 1 team from Costa Rica league and 1 from MLS, thats fine, but just one. All other problems w/CCL not growing are secondary to Mex not really taking CCL seriously

Well Mexican teams have won all 4 CCLs and 7 out of 8 finalist teams were from Mexico, imagine if they took the CCL seriously
