Because we have nothing better to do. :)

Because we would like to see a tournament that is called the America's Cup, to have more teams from the America's in it?

Because our soccer federation has been stupid for th elast several years and said no to a chance to play in an international tournament that could provide a great proving ground for prepping our guys for the World Cup, and now said soccer federation has woken up from its slumber and now wants to see if it can get into the Copa. However, from where we all sit, Costa Rica has filled the spot that would be our's. So rather than bully the Tico's out of the spot that would be our's, we are suggesting expanding the tournament, so we can play with you all and you all take have us spend more money down there.

I think that covers it pretty well.

ohh man, south american qualifiers are the best!!! how lucky we the south americans are to watch these qualifiers, copa america is nothing compared to south american qualifiers, even parreira once said " i don't have a doubt that south american qualifiers are harder than a w.c" cafu also said that once.
copa america is played by u-17 south american teams
south american w.c qualifiers are played with all the super stars from south america who play in europe

copa america will never again would have that prestigious it had back in 1991, until the tournament become again 100% southamerican.

    what r u numb....?

Mind you, not all the top players play in CA due to their club duties, but overall it's still playd with the top MEN currently playing in Latin America clubs. Meaning, Argnetina might not be sending Crespo, but they may send 1/4 best players from Boca Jrs; 1/4 best from River' 1/4 best from Independiente/Velez and so on... these guys are still solid.

I was at the CA in Lima last year and saw the Arg-Brasil match...

    Argentina brought...

    1 ABBONDANZIERI Roberto
    2 AYALA Roberto
    3 SORÍN Juan Pablo
    4 QUIROGA Facundo
    5 MASCHERANO Javier
    6 HEINZE Gabriel
    7 SAVIOLA Javier
    8 ZANETTI Javier
    9 FIGUEROA Luciano
    10 D´ALESSANDRO Andrés
    11 TEVEZ Carlos
    12 CAVALLERO Pablo
    13 PLACENTE Diego
    14 RODRÍGUEZ Clemente
    15 FERNÁNDEZ Leandro
    16 GONZÁLEZ Luis
    17 GONZÁLEZ Mariano
    18 GONZÁLEZ Cristian
    19 DELGADO César
    20 MEDINA Nicolas
    21 ROSALES Mauro
    22 COLOCCINI Fabricio

of which 9/11 players on the field were starters of the Argentina NT at this years WC

hardly an u-17 squad wouldnt you say...;)

Brasil really did bring a B-team... The only players that were also at the WC were Adriano and Juan.

Yeah, they were.. And players like Luisao, Cris, and Julio Cesar were also there. Sure, they didn't get to play in this World Cup, but they were still in the list of 23 players there.

I love the South American qualifiers. They're scary as hell because a team really does need luck to qualify. There are too many talented teams fighting over only 4 spots and except for Argentina it usually does come down to the last 2 or 3 games.

Copa America is fine as it is. Invite the Mexicans. Invite the US. Costa Rica. Jamaica. Japan.

    Whoever.

IMO Copa America is sanctioned by CONMEBOL, all royalties goes to that confederation. WCQ's royalties goes to FIFA.

    Fine.
No more mexico & other guest, big deal. but corona, telmex and the other mex sponsors & tv interest leave too. Let the tournament go back when cameramen aimed at the pitch and the sponsors were Tome Pin y Haga Pun and Santa Clota y Santa Clira.
    Jabon Sussio No Lava.
    Santa Clota Tres Tiritones.
    Fine.

They're not going to just do away with an 80 year old tournament just because.

And it wouldn't be smart business either. Eliminate games = eliminate profit.

    This is true.

The qualifers combine the intensity of a Copa Libertadores with the quality of a World Cup. Everyone brings their best players and everyone goes all out.

I kinda wish Concacaf would join our qualifers just so they can see their mighty Mex & US, who they think are above everyone except Arg & Brazil, get stomped by all the "little teams"

i think copa america can be a concacaf-conmebol tournament with a concacaf qualifyers play-off. sending six teams and we can have 16 teams in the tournament.

its the time to us bring some global attention to our championships, this will attract more money and grows up our national teams teams.

Mexico and the US would not get stomped by all the "little teams". The US and Mexico will lose some of the games to teams other than Argentina and Brazil, but if CONCACAF and CONMEBOL combined and maintained the combined 8 current qualification spots, both the US and Mexico would continue to qualify every time. Costa Rica would have trouble, but would be in contention. T&T would not have likely qualified for this WC if this were in place.

And I am not joking, this is reality. The US is 6-0 against teams in the CONMEBOL other than Brazil and Argentina from 2002 to present with a margin of victory of 12-1. Unfortunately, the US is also 0-3 against Argentina and Brazil with a margin of loss of 1-4. But Argentina and Brazil are only 2 teams, the US would only have to beat out 6 others.

Very nice idea. Now you just need to convince the MLS to let their players go play in the tournament.
