This novela has been on for a while now on Rede Globo, and my wife follows it. I think it's cheesy as hell - especially how they depict some people dancing for no rhyme or reason at all sometimes. Even Norminha's over-acting bugs me a little now since it's like she's just bouncing all the time. It has all of the typical Globo soap opera actors, so nothing really new there either. But what is funny is that now it seems like people are so fickle that India is "in" in Brasil and with Brasileiros in the US. FFS, I'm seeing some people wearing Indian style accessories, etc. Some clubs and restaurant/clubs have "Caminho Das Indias" nights now too. I guess it is just the current fad. But I was wondering what you were seeing where you live and if it's as popular as it seems to be where I am.
That's Brasil. Anyway, I wondered if anyone else had seem some of the ferver with it, though it appears to be dying down a little bit. Some of the actors I like, but it's just the goofiest show that I've seen in quite a while.
Its really sad that a huge chunk of the Brazilian population gets most of their "culture" from rede globo's novelas.
IMO o enredo e completamente implausivel.
That show finally ended a week or two ago. And yes, the characters there were all Brazilian. Juliana Paes has some roots from the middle East but that's about it. In fact, she's a gorgeous girl but the show IMO didn't do her justice.
Normally I am not the types who watches soap operas/ novelas, but I had heard so much about this one that I decided against better sense and watched this. They have started relaying this on Indian channels with the first episode being relayed on the 4th of January. We had the series with English subtitles and it wasn't dubbed into Hindi which was a letdown and will prevent it from being popular with the Indian masses ( not the intended target audience anyways). The plot is oft repeated (at least in India), and the narrative very slow and monotonous even by Indian standards. And that's saying a lot. We have entire families, who for generations that are into television, theater, movies and they churn stuff year after year, which places emphasis on style more than substance. On locales and costumes more than on an actual storyline. On sound effects and camera techniques rather than on dialogues. And so on. Caminho is pretty much at par with the regular Indian soaps on these counts. Where it excels is the absolutely brilliant acting performances put in by almost all the actors. The costume designers have done a good job making them look Indian. More over the actors have been able to reproduce the subtle behaviorism, general body language, idiosyncrasies and the finer nuances of the characters in line with their caste and/or region. That is really good research and acting. Many Indian actors fail in this aspect. The person who has portrayed the role of Surya has been wonderful in this regard. Great acting. Rep her for me. How is it received there? What kind of audience is the intended target of this show?
