I watched the first 20 minutes. He was partially at fault for the first goal but it was just a lot of good passing. Overall, it just looks like he's very slow. I don't know if it's his running style but I thought he was running in mud at points.
He did pretty good, settled into the game nicely. Vorm is so bad with his feet its crazy. Roma is scaring me
I have to say that his lack of speed has worried me, too. That problem can be mitigated by outstanding positioning, but can never be eliminated because lots of actions are out of the slow defender's control, excellent positioning or not.
some of the greatest center backs in history have been slow in terms of sprint speed. Cannavaro was no speedster, Puyol was unusually slow. If Spurs considered him "slow" he would not even be at this level.
Terry was slow, Vidic was slow, many of the top CBs of their generations were slow of foot but fast of mind. The team set up goes a long way too. Look no further than the WC and Lovren. With Pools high line he looks horrible. With Croatia and a defensive set up not isolating him and making him defend in space he was very good.
One of the best in the world, demanding respect from his critics, so says *checks notes* Dejan Lovren. At least his ego is healthy.
He was def tripping with that comment but that shouldn't take away from his very good World Cup and my point. How the team is set up is important.
“Fast of mind” is the difference. Durkin on DC isn’t fast and has other qualities given his position compared to CCV but one of the reasons Durkin excels is how quickly he reacts. It’s been mentioned before. In one of the post game USA threads there were comments about his slow reaction speed / “one step too slow” tackles.
CBs usually take a little longer to build timing up if they don't have it naturally. CCV def needs another loan to help. I think he should target a new EPL side or a team fighting for promotion where he will also see PT.
i noticed the same....may sound wierd but i think the uniforms were not flattering at all and (contributed to/made him look less athletic than he is.

How'd he look? I saw it was 2-0 at HT and was worried CCV had made some mistakes but didn't see video of the goals.
He was responsible for one of the goals. He failed to mark his man on the goal but other than that, he was probably the best CB on the field. He made several clearances and interceptions. He is really good, he should be a starter in the EPL.
Live what I thought happened was that CCV played the offside line, the LB on the weakside didn't and played his man on who knocked it back square and CCV ball watched and did not track his man who had an easy finish.
CCV is a big guy who can take players off the ball easily. I thought it was over once he starting playing against adults but I was wrong. His defensive game has improved greatly. I hope he is a starter somewhere, because he is good enough.
My Interpretation: I think he played well the last few games but want to see alittle more from him before we finally decide if he's the 4th or 5th CD on our club. In a few weeks we'll decide finally if he's going to be a first team player or another loan would be best for his long term development.
I didn't necessarily think he looked THAT great. Would be fun for him to get some time with Tottenham but realistically think a lower level EPL would be fine so I can watch him alot this year. Last year he proved he's ready to move out of the Championship.
