how many official games did he play for Freiburg and what exactly happened for him there? too many injuries? unimpressed manager?
13 games playing 409 min 6 1BL games (all from last season) 5 2BL games 2 DFB Cup he's been at Freiburg since Freiburg U19 back in 2011-2012 season. That's almost a decade there, well at least he made it to 1BL some small reward for his efforts. would say it's a mix of injuries (more recent issue) and other players were ahead of him. He's not the 1st nor last player who even though plays some 1BL for a club they get promoted it doesn't end up in a permanent place.

That is below the league minimum and only two players in the entire league were on the league minimum last year,
if there are better offers dont go to cincinnati? i dont have much sympathy for the 'lowball' argument
They are supposedly using TAM on him, so this isn't a lowball offer. Don't ask me to explain it, but this is how the rules work: TAM may be used in the following ways: In order to use TAM on a player, that player must earn more than the maximum budget charge ($480,625 in 2017) in annual salary. The compensation ceiling for such players is set at $1,000,000 per year, unless the TAM is being applied midseason to buy down the budget charge of an existing Designated Player. Clubs may use a portion or all of their available TAM to convert a Designated Player to a non-Designated Player by buying down his salary to at or below the DP threshold ($480,625 in 2017). If converted during the secondary transfer window, the DP in question may earn a maximum of $1.5 million on a prorated basis. If TAM is used to free up a Designated Player slot, the club must simultaneously sign a new Designated Player at an investment equal to or greater than the player he is replacing as a DP. Clubs retain flexibility to convert players previously bought down with TAM back into Designated Players if they have a free DP slot. Targeted Allocation Money and General Allocation Money may not be used in combination when signing or re-signing a player, or when buying down the budget charge of a Designated Player. The minimum salary cap hit for a player who is bought down with Targeted Allocation Money is $150,000.
Is that international law or napeolonic code? How do UEFA regulations impact it? Will his youth club get a solidarity payment? #vikinged
Back to being a YA (in Greece): Former FC Cincinnati and US youth international midfielder Caleb Stanko signs for Greek club PAS Giannina FC. They sit 4th in the Greek top flight.Stanko, 28, made 56 appearances with Cincy over the last three years. https://t.co/rk3zKouatM— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) January 5, 2022
To be young and live in Greece….. man what a dream! But the NW region of Greece where Stanko is going is pretty mountainous and rugged. Not much is there, IIRC. Probably why the modest little football team is in 4th place.
The connection is their Greek-German manager, Iraklis Metaxas, a longtime assistant and youth manager in Germany. He was the Freiburg II coach while Stanko was there.
Thanks, that’s a cool connection. I wonder why they are doing so well though. As far as I know, PAS Giannina is not a traditional power in Greece.
Definitely not a traditional power. But it looks like they had some success in the early-to-mid 2010’s finishing 5th and 6th a couple of times. Then they were relegated and promoted back last season and finished 9th. I know nothing about their Greek players but it looks like they brought in a slew of guys who had some degrees of success in the German 2nd Bundesliga and Spanish Segunda Division. Maybe that’s been a big help…….
I feel like Greece has their big 4 (PAOK, AEK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos) and then a bunch of mostly interchangeable small clubs beneath that. If a team sneaks up to 5th for a season, it's more a result of randomness than any concerted effort to rise to the level of those 4. ETA: No one outside of that big 4 has finished first or second since Larissa won the league in 1988. They're also the only other club to have won the Greek Cup in the 21st century, which they did in 2007.
