⬤ Hat-trick hero for Liberia, Agatha Nimene, made it 3-0 in Monrovia. The return game in Guinea was a bonkers scoreline, but probably a relief after Liberia's problems on arrival (including six of their U17 squad) ... Thanks @shlj for the CAF update in the thread U-20 WWC (the finals tournament in Central America is delayed to 2021). So the question is, can the African nations finish 3 full qualifying rounds before the end of 2020?
A long time after the first/qualifying round, some countries' teams are getting ready for September and the second round. Round 1 'Proper', as some competitions would call it: Nigeria was turned down as World Cup host, but the team can be confident of qualifying. Their predecessors have reached every U19/U20 World Cup so far. Burkina Faso are their 1st-round opponent – interim Nigeria coach, Moses Adukwu (of club Bayelsa Queens) is confident in their preparations. Zimbabwe's U20s could be the country's first national football team to return to action, if their 1st leg in Ethiopia goes ahead.
Not looking hopeful... An article by Grace Chingoma of The Herald Zimbabwe. Also quoting the latest comments by CAF president Ahmad - on this issue, he certainly presents a realistic view of the crisis - unlike certain world "leaders" or the more craven money-driven sports leagues. They could just cancel the qualifiers and award the two spots to Nigeria & Ghana who qualified for the 2018 tournament.
Today, CAF have done the next best thing... Caf postpones 2021 African U20 Women's World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September - (Goal.com) I can't say I'm confident about the World Cup itself, either. (Currently scheduled for January-February 2021)
